MOH
NOLF
call of duty
battlefield 1942
half life

basically any good FPS

DrGuile 01-21-2004 10:59 AM

for Old School,

XCOM ( the first one )

Best game ever. It has everything. Of course, doesnt work(well) on modern computers.

Recently, I blew through GTA3 and GTA:Vice City. Mafia also was pretty good in the same genre.

Im playing Neverwinter Nights right now, and that's pretty good if you're into the classic D&D genre.

I have a season of NBA Live2003 which I enjoy, I might pickup Madden2004 later today because Im in a football mood and I only have madden99 right now.

bugout 01-21-2004 11:04 AM

Vice City and Hitman 2 for sure..

Max Payne 2 Sucked!!!!

I finished it in 5 hours!

I loved the first one though :)

arial 01-21-2004 11:06 AM

Civilization III http://www.civ3.com/

TheEnforcer 01-21-2004 03:31 PM

Since I'm sure you'll ask what's good about that game I'll tell ya. It's great RTS game that can be played a variety of ways. You can play the agressive way and wage war like crazy, you can take a diplomatic stance and try and win that way, you can have a "space race" to the moon, and more. It has a TON of different strategies and scenarios to play and the better you get the harder you can make it. Playing at Deity level is insanely tough if you can ever get that good.

My brother just called to rave about it, but he's a bit of an idiot about things like this.

I've never personally played it but I know a lot of XBox owners that rave about it.

My bad. It is a turn based game and not real time. Though the online multiplayer has simultanesous real time action.

i'd also recommend ww2 fighter sim "IL-2 forgotten battles"

i so liked sid's colonization too, oldie but still very playable

Where the hell would I find that?

I went to Amazon.com earlier this week and dropped 4 games into my shopping cart that were mentioned here. When I went to "check out" and pay for them, it said there was a problem with my order and that they couldn't ship 3 of the games to where I am. That's totally fucked. What sort of backwater dipshit company can't ship to Canada from the US?

Guess I'll have to hit bestbuy and see if they have them in stock.

RP Fade 01-24-2004 08:39 PM

Counter Strike
Soldier of Fortune 2
Morrowind
BF 1942
Jedi Knight 2
Jedi Outcast

Joe Citizen 01-24-2004 08:43 PM

Zork r0xors my s0xors!

Libertine 01-24-2004 09:41 PM

Morrowind. It's a HUGE rpg (lots and lots bigger than, for instance, fallout 2 or baldur's gate) which gives you almost complete freedom to do whatever the fuck you want. You can become a mighty warrior or a sweet-talking assassin, or even a wanted outlaw or a vampire, feeding on the blood of innocent maidens :Graucho
The game is entirely non-lineair, so you can choose to dabble in being a hero and saving the world, or just build your own personal fortune and become the leader of some of the many factions in the game... or just alternate between the two.

Best game ever, if you like RPGs :thumbsup

Edit: If you choose to do everything in the game, I believe it takes about 400 hours of playing, and there are two expansion packs which add another 100 or so hours. Besides that, it's also highly addictive, so if you value your life and don't want to waste a few months playing a game, you might want to avoid it like the plague :winkwink:

codymc12 01-25-2004 12:20 AM

Half Life - Great game.

Serious Sam 1 and 2 - Great graphics, and just the sheer volume of unending, wave after wave of baddies. I remember one battle that was, literally, 10 minutes of non stop shootout. Not to mention that the final boss in #1 is like, 80 feet tall.

Red Faction - the original, not #2. Not talked about much, but for me it had everything. All kinds of weapons, even vehicles, underwater battles, etc.

Baldurs Gate 2 - I resisted this for years. Then I played it, and I was hooked. It's incredibly long. I devoted about 6 months of weekends to it. Make sure you get the expansion (Throne of Baal) and install it along with the original.

Medal of Honor - Great series of games.

BF1942 - Always good for stress relief : "When you JUST have to kill someone, and only hurting them just won't do."

Kicker 01-25-2004 04:23 AM

Medal of Honor is great:thumbsup

flashfire 01-25-2004 04:30 AM

Max Payne is one of my favourites...as for old school I like Loom (yes loom not doom) and Monkey Island both lucas arts games

CDSmith 10-13-2004 03:04 PM

Update:

I just ordered "Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowind Game Of The Year Edition" .... as per Punkworld's advice.

Also:

"Halo: Combat Evolved" and "Max Payne 2: the fall of Max Payne"

Plus a bargain basement package of "Diablo 2" and "Diablo 2: Lord of Destruction"

Should be a fun winter.

Btw, if you guys have any more games to recommend, I'd appreciate it. If you can, don't just shout out game titles, tell a little bit about the game and what you specifically like about it so much. Thanks.

CDSmith 10-13-2004 03:09 PM

I just scored an "amazon Marketplace" deal on "Civilization 3 Game of the Year Edition" for $18 Cdn, as per the Enforcer's advice. I don't know if he posts here anymore, but if he does, thanks for the good description.

Has anyone played any of the "Hitman" games on PC yet? Let me know if you liked them (and why)... or what you didn't like about them.

As for you CD, I would recommend a very simple but addictive game: ElastMania.
I used to waste SO much time playing this game, simply because it is probably the most stupid, yet fun game in the world.

It is fun because not only can you try to beat 40 or so levels, you can build your own tracks and download others tracks online!!

I'm telling you mang, the game is RETARDED but it is so much fun, you will not stop playing it until you can't see straight - but if you're like I was, you will keep playing!

Goddamnit, I think i'm going to have to start playing this game again....

Download Demo

Feel free to hit me up when you're stuck on a level!
Enjoy! :)

Get the new Cicilization III: Complete that just came out. Has the new Civ III plus all the expansions that came out. The game rocks!!

Basic_man 10-13-2004 03:44 PM

doom3
NHL 2005
sim 2
warcraft

Everquest.com

Insanely addictive... and how about these numbers, well over 1 million subscribers at $25 a month

Older Games

Transport Tycoon [Deluxe]
- A definate classic, if you haven't played this, you can't call yourself a gamer. Build a complete network of various types of transport in scenerio's or randomly generated maps.

Carmageddon
- A fun kill everything in site for points game... kinda like a premature GTA.

GTA 1 & 2
- ... Hell yeah.

Theme Hospital
- Fun game, build a hopsital, hire, train etc. Not fantastic but worth listing.

Baldurs Gate I & II + Throne of Bhaal
- If you like RPG's then this is for you. It uses the infinity engine, so if you love NWN and don't wanna change, then don't play this, if you didn't like NWN, then this is for you =D

Sim City + 2000
- Classic, needs no intro.

Age of Empires
- A nice RTS, played this for hours.

Newer Games

Unreal Tournament
- Original was good.

UT2k4
- This one is better =D

Quake 2 & 3
- It's all about the railgun

Call of Duty
- Russian + PPsh = Spray ownage.

Sim City 3000
- A nice advanced version of Sim City.. a little hard but fun none the less.

----------

Now go spend =D

Actually yes, it does. It's not that I've never heard of it, but hearing a title tells me nothing, and so far that's all I've heard is the title. Anything to do with "the Sims" or "Sim"-anything..... I know squat about it.

What is the storyline in the game, if any?
What is the gameplay like?
Why did you like playing it?

Come on guys, share a little insight.

warlock5 10-13-2004 04:22 PM

All of you Starcraft and Warcraft fans have got to check out Warhammer: Dawn of War. Single-player is ok, but multi-player is an absolute blast. I've seen many Warhammer games, well they finally did it right.

Hitman, Hitman 2, and Hitman 3 are great if you like action games that are a little slower paced and require strategy. The ragdoll physics of the original Hitman were revolutionary for their time. The original Dues Ex is good too.

Vampire: The Masquerade had me hooked. There are very few games I play to completion due to a mixture of lack of interest and simple time constraint. I actually beat Vampire: The Masquerade. I'm looking forward to the sequel which should be out at the end of the year. Sadly they've turned it into a first person shooter.

I'm also a big fan of Ghost Recon. I've played all the expansion packs through to completion and played it online. If you enjoy tactical shooters this is it.

I may just have to get that. I'll see how the one I ordered does with me first, and you can't beat the price of $18 bucks. Plus it comes with Civilization 1 as a bonus. Should keep me busy for a while.
