!Need Help/advice -Collection Agency

hopefully someone here has experience dealing with collection agencies and can help me out.

SEMA=Docter's Association
CMRE- collection agency

Basically due to a accounting mishap, I never got my bills from SEMA for a emergency visit during sept of last year. I thought my insurance took care of it but appearently they didn't. So CMRE, the collection agency started to send me the bill. By this time BLUE CROSS did pay for almost all of my bill. Here is where my problem is. I've Contacted the collection agency numerous times and have faxed them my blue cross statement saying that most of the principal has been paid so they are billing me for the wrong amount. However they have ignored my mailings and continue to state that I owe the full principal + interest incurred. SEMA has pretty much sold the account to them so they won't do shit to help me. I am really at a loss on what to do as they are threatening to report it to place it on my credit record. But I also don't want to just give in and pay the full amount. Anyone got any good advice on what I should do next???

thankx

Have an attorney send them a letter citing the consumer debt collection laws they are violating and then report them to your State Attorney General.

Yeah, it sounds like they fucked up. You probably don't need a lawyer to fix it though. A personal debt counselor should be able to starighten it out for you cheaper then a lawyer would.
