Hey does anyone have Sattelite and have a dvr box with no phone line hooked up to it. I had cable and had a dvr box of course with no phone line. I have sattelite and when I called to order the dvr box they said you have to have a phone line going to it or it would not work. But they say that with the regular boxes and I have it with no phone line. So if anyone has a dvr box hooked up with sattelite with no phone line, let me know the deal.

That's BS, the phone line is only for ordering pay per view. Tell them to stop hassling you and just plug the damn thing in. You don't need pay per view you can record whatever you want with the DVR.

hmm i got Ultimate TV and TIVO and you need the phone line to download the TV Schedule thats why they charge you the extra monthly fees

I have Microsoft Ultimate TV and Tivo DVR's for sattelite. DirectTV/DishNetwork requires you to have a phone line hooked up to the service to verify payper videos as well as your monthly subscription to Tivo and Ultimate TV. If you disconnect the phone line they will shut your satellite off after about 3 months.

I have a hacked/modifed DTIVO with no phone mod. It's a DSR6000/GXCEBOT unit. I havent gotten around to upgrading the HD. I turned the new unit into a lifetime tivo mod, it's fairly easy to do, and I have it so it never checks.

The TIVO itself gets all the information from the DirecTV stream. I think it's ridiculous they charge for their services for a guide your not even getting from them, so now when you pay $5/mo for Tivo with a Dtivo, your just paying them for the rights to use it and for the dumb showcases, and well the licensing on their software.

You can modify any new DirecTivo to have the no phone mod. Most people do it if they don't pay for DirecTV, because than they can't possibly activate the Tivo service.

You can get information in the dealdatabase.com forums on modifying the units, even if you just want the no-phone mod.

i have that too - you don't need to have the phone plugged into the unit all the time, just plug it in periodically, like every two weeks. they will send you text messages letting you know when you need to plug in the line. got mine here:
