I have a hacked/modifed DTIVO with no phone mod. It's a DSR6000/GXCEBOT unit. I havent gotten around to upgrading the HD. I turned the new unit into a lifetime tivo mod, it's fairly easy to do, and I have it so it never checks.

The TIVO itself gets all the information from the DirecTV stream. I think it's ridiculous they charge for their services for a guide your not even getting from them, so now when you pay $5/mo for Tivo with a Dtivo, your just paying them for the rights to use it and for the dumb showcases, and well the licensing on their software.

You can modify any new DirecTivo to have the no phone mod. Most people do it if they don't pay for DirecTV, because than they can't possibly activate the Tivo service.

You can get information in the dealdatabase.com forums on modifying the units, even if you just want the no-phone mod.
