:tongue "If you don't like the USA, move"

alright. I've noticed a very common response to criticism of G.W.Bush or the direction of US policy quickly generates comments from Patriots suggesting if you don't like it, get out of the country. The smart response aside . . that you want change/improvement specifically because you love the USA and don't want to see it go down a dark path . . I want to know what our options are.

People from other countires please reply!

Where are you from, and what is your countrys immigration process?
how hard is it to get approval for citizenship or permanent residency?

I could look this up at each countries website, but I think the people who live there will give a more realistic response than a bunch of beaurocratic regulations posted in PDF.

Can I pack my bags tomorrow and move to Canada?
England? Australia? NZ? France? The Netherlands? etc

Obviously someone fleeing neoconservative/christian-taliban laws
would want to relocate to countries that offer more freedoms,
so for purposes of this arguement it only counts if your government
is more socially liberal than G.W.Bush wants the USA to be.

to make this thread ontopic, there may very well be several
porn producers here that will want to (have to quickly?) relocate
if the government does crack down on 'obscenity'.

Assume the applicant is just an average joe;
not someone with a million business dollars to invest.
(no buying your way in)

I have a suspicion most developed countries don't want us.
If that turns out to be the case, I'll hope that quiets the "get out" rhetoric.

btw - this isn't a hate/flame post. I'm seriously interested.
Hope I get some honest answers

Just dangle onto the back of a train from France, and the UK will welcome you with open arms. You'll also receive a free house, free health care, and a radio.

Once again, that's not a solution. The problems are the same everywhere. You also have dumb people everywhere. You can't just run away and expect the problems to disappear. Trust me, I'd know.

You are mistaken on that point. You can always marry someone though and get a visa to live in the UK that way

You forgot about the leather jacket, mobile phone and nike trainers. It seems they're all standard issue too.

doh!

For the purposes of this thread, assume you are already married,
to another american, and want to move your whole family there.
This is potentially for porn distributors fleeing the justice department;
a 30-40 year old with a wife and kids.

People who desire freedom also want to marry based on love;
so no buying OR MARRYING your way in.

I'll conceed dumb people are everywhere. And all countries have problems. But if you want to produce porn, which countries are safer than G.W.Bush's america? If you don't like the Patriot Act, which countries will be better? Some countries have decriminalized drugs. Others have decriminalized prostitution. They do not have a vice squad at war with the populace. They do not have religious extremists, who don't believe in evolution, and want the bible taught in public schools, dominating their country. Therefore, some americans might want to be aware of their options.

If you come to the UK you won't get locked up without being given a trial by jury. If you are poor and ill you will get free treatment too. Everybody has the right to a place to live, support and benefit.

We are over generous with asylum. I notice a lot of them are being sent back as their countries stablize though.

Obviously to claim asylum you need to get into the country illegally somehow. Lorry drivers are fined 1000's of pounds if they bring in illegals now. A lot of them use fake passports as checks in their own country are bad, they then eat the passport on the plane, the airline gets fined for bringing somebody without a passport and they claim asylum.

I've got a simple solution for that. Collect the passports when checking them. Hand them back out when the passengers are getting off of the plane.

i went on trip to europe exactly 1 year ago, loved it, and didnt use my return ticket.

there ARE alternatives to america. And no, its not the same problems everywhere. People are raised completely different in america, europe has different responses to the same problems -- responses that work.

America is a very young country and approaches problems like a teenager whereas old europe is older and wiser, they've been countries for a lonnnnng time and have a lot of experience with the inherent problems and have some pretty innovative solutions.

Europe has a sense of personal freedom and personal responsibility thats just unknown in america. There would never be a patriot act here. And for that matter you wouldnt be able to sue someone for you spilling coffee in your own lap. It's very refreshing.

It depends what your priorities in life are, if you want material possessions strong churches and repubilcans, stay in america.. If you're more of a liberal humanist, Expatriate!

the great thing about the adult industry is that if you plan your business right, you can fund and then venture into more of a mainstream business which means if the gavel has been brought down that final time, you won't need the adult business to survive.

those who think they will get rich quick in this business need to wake up. those days are long over and if people haven't taken precautions to set their lives up, those people are in trouble. there has been some serious writing on the wall for a long time now. the current admin is horrible and most agree to that but i do have to say i think they have opened our eyes to what our collegues are doing and lets face it, we don't like what some of our peers have been up to which means we really need to get on the ball and make some changes ourselves, as an industry.

i would never move out of the us because the porn industry all but ceased to exist. there are far more important reasons that would cause me, personally, to move but this industry isn't even on the list. putting your eggs in one basket is just asking for trouble.

The US isn't perfect. However the rights guaranteed to us by our Constitution allows us to continue to improve our country.

If you're a US Citizen and you don't like the US President, then get off your ass and vote or get involved in the political process. You can do a lot to make a difference if you really wanted.

The grass isn't greener on the other side. ;)

That's right what KC said. Fact is Politicians and diapers have one thing in common: They should both be changed regularly, and for the same reason.

If people from GFY want to leave the US, you should not try to stop them! They obviously have thought long and hard about it, and are making the right decision!!

let's just face it, the adult industry professionals will become the new nomadic tribe of the modern age. There is no place that will be called home and when the shit hits the fan...move on, move on.

Excellent advice, I've applied this to all areas of my life as well.

Didn't like my neighbors dog pooping in my yard, so I moved.
Didn't like my kids 3rd grade teacher, so I moved
Didn't like something my wife said, so I moved
Bastard mailman kept getting my mail mixed, so I moved
My kids got on my nerves, so I moved (left extra food out)

You are mistaken on that point. You can always marry someone though and get a visa to live in the UK that way
and even then it ain't easy and you better not tell them you are coming into the country to get married - especially if you met on the 'net as many do these days.

Lets see, first I came over on a student work visa which was valid for 6 months. I got a stamp at the airport in my passport ordering me to go to my local police department and register. I had to get a job with in a certain amount of time but the people I got the job with had to show why a Brit couldn't do the job. So, I ended up as a 'north american travel specialist' at a travel agency.

The police department gave me a green booklet that I had to get my boss to fill in and then I had to take it back to the police station and register my job. If I had changed my job in that 6 months I would of had to go back and register the change.

I also ( the order is bit faded in my mind) had to go to jupiter house in London and get some more paperwork that give me solid permission to stay for six months. I had to basiclly give them bits of my liver to prove I wasn't going to break the law. Meanwhile two guys next to me at the row of desks were from Turkey. The guy who was being interviewed, didn't speak English AND came over on his BROTHER''s passport and was allowed in.

After six months I married my british husband and then it was off to Lunar house in Croydon ( I HATE this place) to register our marriage and apply for permanent stay. This place is insane. It is where all the assylum cases go as soon as they land/arrive in London which means everyone from Heathrow and Gatwick. The line starts outside the building, we got there at 6:30am - they didn't open until 9am - and there were already 500 people in the line. Apparently the first person had lined up at 10pm the night before.

Once in there we had to 'prove we loved each other' and provide a zillion banks statements (to show I had my own means of support) and letters coming to the house with my name on it, etc. About five hours after walking in the door they gave me temporary residence and said I had to come back a year later when they could grant permenant residency.

This time, the woman next to me was from Iran. She was black and blue all over her face. She said she had been married but she tried to get a divorce. Her husband stole her passport and went back to Iran. She showed them letters from his family saying that if she returned to Iran they would kill her. I watched her cry as they said she had to go back.

Then a year into our marriage we went back and the line outside Lunar House was still long but luckily we got in that day. We were seen at the window three hours after being let in and we were told that our case was good BUT that I only brought two bankstatements and apparently now I needed three. Oh, I could go get them but they were closing in two hours.

Well, we don't drive and this is on the otherside of London. I jumped on a train, ran into the house - I don't run - found another statement and luckily as I ran out of the house my mother in law's car drove past the door. I threw myself into her path and begged her to drive me to Croydon. She sped all the way to Croydon, I ran down the hill to Lunar House, they wouldn't let me back in because they were about to close but I was allowed to hand my husand the statement through the door.

Next I saw him he had my passport in hand with my tressured green card that grants me residency forever. This means that I can live and work here and own a buisness, etc. Also, after five years had passed (It is now a bit over 7 for me) I was allowed to vote and if I needed to draw benefits I could.

All of that and it was only that EASY because my husband was British and I managed to come in on a student Visa

If you're talking fleeing during an investigation or on bail, that's very different than fleeing as a pre-emptive guard against new laws or crackdowns.

In general, a lot of countries are okay with rich or talented people immigrating. Naturally they don't want freeloaders, they want people who will contribute more than they take from the country, so poor, uneducated, or unemployable immigrants are less desirable everywhere. Canada and various Carribean countries set exact dollar amounts, like Canada pretty much give citizenships if you're a businessperson who has US$600,000 to $650,000 in assets. There are plenty of companies that specialize in helping you gain citizenship in other countries. I'd pick the countries you're interested in and then research them, it should only take a few minutes googling for the citizenship requirements of a given country.

I would always encourage people to move out of the US. Everyone who feels inclined this way should certainly do so quickly before things get even worse here. I have spent almost half of my life outside the US....in the UK, South Africa, Hong Kong, Brazil, Amsterdam, etc.... and although I personally love it here and wish to live in the US for the rest of my life, I absolutely admire and respect people who decide to leave. When I don't like a country, I don't live there, and hate when people, (not you Cassie), think that a certain country is bad, but continue to live/visit there. Case in point, I have never liked France, (they never liked me, being an american jew), so I try my best not to go there unless forced to by business. Same goes for certain other countries that I feel suck.

If I might suggest France BTW, one need only to molest a minor, and then flee before your trial. You will always be welcome there. This works especially well if you have shot some content at some point, you will then be acclaimed as an artist when you arrive.

Not really because those beaurocrats are the ones that need to let you through the door.

I know if you want into Canada it's almost essential to have a degree. Welcome to a country where college is a right so everyone and there mother has a degree, heh.

if you are truly that frightened you should stand up and fight for what you want. find groups your can support or volunteer time to and try to make a difference. donate to an anti-bush movement .

though, since you are clearly into running, i suggest France.

with all the content i have shot in 7 years, i should be considered the next van gogh.....lol

i admire people who want to move for the right reasons for themselves. running away from a problem(s) doesnt solve anything. the only time i would suggest altering ones life in such an extreme manner is when one has tried every avenue to make changes or a difference. if that does not work, then make the life altering change for then one knows that he/she did everything they could to make their life better and it just didnt work.

some things cant be changed and some things can. i think its worth the fight to try to change things one doesnt like and if one doesnt succeed, then they can say they tried and thats all that can be done.

if i had to move from here, i would consider ireland, sweden, amsterdam, aus.; it would have to be places where all four seasons existed and people speak english well cause i suck at learning a foreign language. amsterdam is top on the list.
