Common adult webmaster misconceptions.

Do you guys realize that there is a good number of you guys that do not know the correct pronunciations of a number of commonly used terms in our industry?

For instance, how do you pronounce 'urls'? I pronounce it as U.R.L.s. (you-are-els). I've heard people say 'urls', like 'murals' and it's just not right, right?

Please correct me if I am wrong here.

I also pronounce 'jpeg' as 'jay-peg'. How do you guys say 'gif', 'jiff' or 'giff'?

I pronounce .gif as giff.....and url as in U.R.L....jay peg for .jpeg...

ural doesn't sound right.

But, then I was taught that .avis were ahvees...not a v i's....

My first website that I made, when Frontpage 98 first came out, was a warez site. Many people that ran those sites wouldn't know how to say it. It's 'wares', like 'softwares' - not 'ware-rez'!

I say "swiff" not s-w-f.. seems natural as you don't call a gif g-i-f you say "giff"

i say u-r-l rather than "ural" or "earl"

cache.. depends, for some reason many people say "kaysh" when talking about computers but "kashay" when talking about other contexts - eg. a "kashay" of weapons.
I use "kaysh" because thats what everyone uses.

when people write "sponcer" it's because they're crap spellers.

cashet is a different word with a different meaning and pronunciation than 'cache', I think that's where you're getting tripped up. And I pronounce cache as 'cash' which is obviously the only correct way. Because I do it that way

avi = a v i
url = url
mysql = my s q l
gif = giff
url = u r l
