![]() Does anyone care about all these other top-level domains?
.MUSEUM? .NAME? .PRO? .COOP? .AERO? I read that ICANN is planning on releasing even more TLDs, but I think all these wacky TLDs just confuse people. I've never once seen a domain that ends in .museum or .name or .pro, etc... and I've spent at least 40 hours a week online for the past 7 years. .com is king, ICANN can release more and more TLDs untill the cows come home, but is anybody going to use them?

Some speculators will go around buying all the one word .whatever domains, dreaming of a big sale one day that isn't gonna happen.
.com and possibly .net is where it's at. Brian |

In the short term, they are useless... but down the road, once the internet evolves yet again, I can almost guarantee that TLD's will expand beyond .com and .net.
In the long run, I can see .store , .library , .car , . whatever ... it'll enhance proper targeting engines and people will be 'trained' to use them. |

.com is branded like Coke. Call it Pepsi, RC Cola, or whatever but at the end of the day Coke is what people most associate with cola.

.com is brandable You'll have a tough time building a brand around .name or .coop or whatever other wacky TLDs ICANN decides to release. I understand what ICANN is trying to do, but I just don't think it's going to work.

Who would go out and build a brand now around anything that WASN'T a .com? Whoever owns the .com will thank you for all that free traffic...
As for the future.. you might as well take that money to the casino as "investing" it in other TLDs.. worst case scenario and they do take off - you can always pay a few k or so to get them from the first level speculators.. much like what happened with .coms around 97, or 98. Brian |
