Pre-Modded Xbox - How much would you pay?

I know there are a lot of Xbox junkies on the board, so I figured I would throw this question out - How much would you pay for a fully modified Xbox with around 25 Xbox games, all the emulators (MAMEoX, NES, SNES, Atari 2600, Colecovision, Sega Genesis, Intellivision) - and every ROM available for each?

I'm asking for two reasons... ONE: Because I modded my own Xbox with an Xecuter 2.3 chip, 120gb hard drive, etc.. And I'm possibly looking to get rid of it. I get involved in these little distraction projects because it's actually more fun figuring out how to do the mod, and getting it working than it usually is playing the finished product Don't get me wrong, playing all the emulators alone is worth the price of the hardware... but it's a new month, and a new distraction project is looming (modifying a TiVo)

And second reason... since my friends saw the modded Xbox, I have at least 4 or 5 guys now that want me to "hook them up". It's not that I won't hook a friend up, but it's not like you just unpack the machine out of the box, throw in a CD and the system is fully functional. Doing a full mod takes quite a few hours to get from stock retail Xbox, to full modified Xbox with all programs/games/emulators/roms, new hard drive, and mod chip installed.

The cost of the hardware alone is around $330 (new Xbox- $179, mod chip- $40, 120gb 7200rpm 8mb cache drive- $110). I see some places like system-mods that sell 120gb pre-modded Xboxes for like $430, but this of course is just the hardware (they won't even think of pre-installing software for you). Getting all that software installed is the real bitch, and takes hours upon hours.

So not to get too long-winded here... any experienced modded Xbox guys, chirp in with what you think a system like this would be worth. I don't want to overcharge my buddies, but I also don't want to give them 20hrs of my time for free either

Thanks in advance!

PS - If anyone's interested in my Xbox system that I mentioned above, drop me a line. ICQ is in sig, or hit me up at [email protected]

And why would you have to buy those 25 games first in the store? The only reason you ever need the retail game DVD when you have a modded machine is to play on Xbox Live.

Yes yes... some people have moral dilemas when it comes to playing game backups. But I would certainly bet those same people don't pay for every piece of software they have installed on their PC, so where's the distinction? And you're saying you would rather go out and plunk down $1250+ on these 25 games rather than play the backup copies??

In any case.. I'm not looking to turn this thread into a moral issue. Just wanted to get some legit feedback from the modded Xbox crowd as to what they feel a system like this would be worth

New modded xbox will go for around $170-200. second hand would probably go less

Getting the software is a breeze if you've ever looked on the usenet
The ROMS are easily found using bittorrent or on IRC...
all this can be found via google
modding it takes an experienced modder less than 15 minutes....
you can pay a modder in your town to throw the chip in for under $20.....
putting the harddrive in is a piece of cake...
I don't think you'll be looking at much profit
most people when hearing a >$400 price tag for a $200 xbox will just go and learn how to do it themselves

I totally agree... finding roms is no problem. But I don't just have like a couple hundred roms on the machine, I literally have about 15 gigs of roms, which most don't have.

As for the $200 price tag you put on the xbox... the machine itself is nearly $200, then the modchip is $40, and the 120gb hard drive is another $110+. So I'm not disputing some of your points, but in hardware alone I have around $340 invested. So clearly I'm not going to sell the box for $200

Never said that $400 wasn't a fair price..
what I said was people would balk at spending $400 on a $200 xbox..
instead, they'd try to figure out how to do it..

as for the roms...
the current mame package is 8gb... found easily
the current SNES package is 5 gigs, found easily
the current c64 package is 600 megs, also easy
the current NES package is 2 gigs...

unfortunately, if anybody takes the time to look on the net, they'll find 'em within 5 minutes

I wish you luck, but... But I don't think you'll have much of it
You MAY find a $60 profit... especially since if you know where to look, you can get WD 120gb 8 meg cache harddrives for $60
X2.3 modchip for $40..
just hope you don't running into HD locking problems or accidently fry an xbox soldering it in (or, if you use a non-solder, providing warranty when they accidently shake the pogopins loose )
