I tried uninstalling icq once and it did some crazy shit to Dreamweaver, without joking I couldnt run Dreamweaver unless I reinstalled icq, i installed and reinstalled a few times to prove it to myself, now I refuse to install icq on any machine, to hell with those shitty little programs that cause issues.

It took me a few days to figure out it was icq, but lo and behold, if I reinstalled icq Dreamweaver would work, if not, it wouldnt even launch.

weird crap happens is all i know.

Off topic: Why do webmasters use Dreamweaver?
It's an HTML editor right?

I just create a .txt file double click it and type in html and then
change the ext to html and upload to my server.

Does it do some special things that I'm missing?

To be fair it's a lot easier to do graphic heavy sites in a WYSIWYG editor, especially when you're doing something in a complicated table with lots of slices etc.

If you're doing simple pages, or you want to write standards compliant code, and you know how to type, then it's quicker to do it in a good text editor IMO. If you use something like DW you have to go in afterwards and clean up the code anyway, but it's easier for initial complicated layouts.

So you write the html tags and ALL the code by hand? Why? That's like getting out a butter churn when I want to butter my toast.
