Time travel is possible

What if it was possible.. And you could only change one thing (going back and change one event). What would it be?

Rules : It cannot be about money or possible love.

It can be about changing history, saving a loved one.. etc..

My choice : I'd help the german winning world war 1. Just imagine the consequences.. No world war 2. Hitler would've become a poor artist.. Stalin would've become a poor guy with a lame moustache..

I'd go back to the great depression, with a boatload of gold and silver, and trade it in for certain stocks. then hide the stocks in a secure location, travel forward, cash them in and buy a small island somewhere inthe BVI

I would have arranged for a larger cataclysmic meteor than the one that hit the planet 65 million years ago so that nothing survived.

This planet is evil.

I've always wanted to be in medieval times with a howitzer.

Imagine laying seige to a castle with a 155mm canon.

Your contridicting yourself here. If you don't think help winning World War 1 would help money or "possible" love, then your mistaking.

You made rules and then broke them immediately.

By helping that war, you just changed a bazillion loved ones.

Myself, although I may do it to save "loved one", but if I really did look back, I would never get to where I'm trying to go I think.

First of all... the Earth is spinning, and rotating around the sun... correct? In fact, it's going at an incredible rate of speed.

Now, if time travel was to be true, it would infact allow you to travel through time, NOT space.

Meaning, if you were to jump through time so much as 5 minutes.... or even less.... then the Earth would have continued to spin and move while you stayed stationary.... meaning when you reach the time destination... you will either be stuck inside the planet or launched out in space.

If you seriously think you can start in a room, travel through time and end up inside that same room... you're very much mistaken.

Saving a loved one was permitted. Don't try to fuck with me.

I said that you can't change the past to force a possible love. Like killing someone going out with the girl of your dreams and then stay with her, and take care of her until she falls in love with you.. stuff like that..

Couldn't you travel to a time when the position of the earth was the same as when you left? It would limit destinations but it might be possible. Or would that be thrown off by the fact that the whole galaxy is also moving through space while the earth rotates around the sun?

I guess my real question is...is the earth ever in the same place twice?

We are in the "what if" scenario. I never asked anyone to give me a theory about relativity and time travel

That must be how they do it on Star Trek. :P They're already in a space ship, so they just jump back in time in an area of space they know will be clear when they arrive.

One more theory. Transfer your body into energy, send the energy back in time, it would matter where the energy ended up, as long as you had a way set up to relay the energy somewhere were you could be reconstituted. Sort of like a Star Trek teleporter only also taking you through time.

I would provide nuclear weapons, missles, tanks, machineguns etc... to the following people:

North American Indians,
Africans,
Austrailian Bush Men,
Native Tazmanians,
Hawaiians,
Sumoans

Or I would kill Adam and fuck the shit out of Eve.

yeah, I saw that... I'm guessing they got the name from a Ray Bradbury short story... can't remember the name.

Anyway, a travel agency offers hunting.... dinosaurs. They have a special ramp way set up in the passed that doesn't alter or affect anything, and they scout dinosaurs so you can shoot one just as it's about to die anyway.... so nothing is affected along the time line.

but one guy steps off the ramp way and steps on a butterfly. Thinking it's no big deal, he does his thing and goes back only to find that the spelling of words has completely changed. That's it... nothing else, people still talk the same, but the spelling is changed.

Kinda put things into perspective.

Interesting.

This short story was actually taking the "Butterfly effect" into another perspective.

Even Homer Simpson did the same thing when he fixed a toaster and created a time machine by mistake! hahaha..

It was in a Treehouse of Horror, don't remember wich one.

Butterfly Effect :

Due to nonlinearities in weather processes, a butterfly flapping its wings in Tahiti can, in theory, produce a tornado in Kansas. This strong dependence of outcomes on very slightly differing initial conditions is a hallmark of the mathematical behavior known as chaos.

Yeah, unless you had enough fucking brains to travel to the point of time where the Earth had rotated back into the exact position that it was when you traveled. Ya, know, like travel in increments of 364.25 X 24 fucking hours.

Review about the movie

The Butterfly Effect A

Starring Ashton Kutcher, Amy Smart, and Ethan Suplee

Directed by J. Mackye Gruber and Eric Bress

Rated R for violence, sexual content, nudity, language, and brief drug use

Appropriate for ages 17+

The Story: According to the chaotic Butterfly Effect theory, a butterfly?s wings flapping in Brazil has the potential of causing a tornado in Texas. In other words simple actions can have a major effect on future events. In this film, a young man (Kutcher) devises a method of traveling back in time to change his past events in the hopes of repairing the present and the future, only to find that things are made worse.

The Good: I had one serious problem with this film: I couldn?t find anything wrong with it. The story and writing is absolutely fabulous. The directing is sharp and intriguing. Even Kutcher (who I had no respect for before this film) was perfectly cast and took the role very seriously. The beautiful Amy Smart also proves that she can act as she plays many different characters convincingly throughout Kutcher?s alternate universes. Kudos go to these brave filmmakers and New Line studio for bringing us this very unusual and risky film.

The Bad: There are lots of scenes that many will find very offensive. It is very appropriate that the kids in the film go to see the movie Seven, for this film is just as disturbing. It is violent in a much scarier way than you could possibly prepare yourself for. In other words, weak hearts and stomachs need not see this one.

The Summary: This terrific but disturbing psychological thriller will have you cringing and thinking at the same time. Hitchcock would be proud.

Go way back in the day and convince the people that I am God with my vast knowledge and modern day equipment.

Come back to the modern era to find many statues of me and people that still worship me from the stories passed through time.

For every action there is a reaction. For every possible reaction there is already a alternate reality split for it. Well according to this quantum theory:

If you had enough brains, you'd know that the Earth doesn't come back to the exact same position as it was a year ago... it's not like the planet is rotating on a piece of perfectly level ice.

I would go and give bill gates money to work out of an office instead of his garage and get a small percentage!

Fuck that. That's the only reason I'd want to go back in history.
