iPod 3G / Windows XP - anyone have this working?

I just bought one and XP recognizes the device but is complaining about the driver. The driver seems to be hahahahahaded in the iPod updater / iTunes package, but doesn't load / load correctly.

Sony PCG505 laptop with iLink (Sony Firewire)

The Apple support site is completely worthless on this topic. Any suggestions (aside from buying a Mac)?

I removed everything and did that also. I'm really perplexed at this moment. I guess I'll have to break down and call Apple if they offer live support for this product.

Thanks for the response.
