You guys don't understand it. Look at who the email is from and his position.

It might as well just say Salesman, it would be closer to the truth.

If they never sent you the original letter, which you never responded to this looks like a scam. At worse extortion at best bad business practises.

Show it to the police is my advice, it's a con.

Return-Path: <[email protected]>

doing a whois: from the SMTP server that was used:

Registrant:
Canaca-Com Inc.
1650 Dundas Street East
Mississauga, Ontario L4X2Z3
CA

Domain name: RSLRS3-SERVER.COM

Administrative Contact:
Inc, Canaca-Com [email protected]

doing a whois on acaciatechnologies.com looks like they moved their website recently now to canada.

Acacia's new website is on the same vhost with:

http://www.toronto-sexy-escorts.com
http://www.Exotic-escorts-toronto.com

But that's not big news since Acacia partners with adult sites for those that license their patent... so smut money is all good to them.

If and when then patent is found to be invalid - will they be required to pay back all the money they fraudulently extorted from webmasters?

no...sucks huh? Heard rumors that some got it in their contract that money would be returned, etc. Some got sweetheart deals, some didn't. Some got gag clause removed, etc.

The part that didn't seem to post from the header was the return address:

licensing at acaciatechnologies.com

I don't know about you but, isn't that a little bit too convenient that those acacia's sponsor are now in a position, to be force to be promoted, but the means of a lawsuit treat e-mail and letters from acacia ?

In fact, if i was a conspiracy theory maker, i would say that it looks more and more like those sponsors, could have used acacia to promote themself with the meaning of threatening over the other sponsors.

What a great way to fuck everyones.

Since I am one.. sounds great to me.

Isn't it interesting that out of the 111 CONFIDENTIAL agreements, that these names were released?

Hustler's name was able to be used because they were a prominent company in people's eyes (as evident of Hustler's name being used on the 3Q conference call, Final Notice letters, etc). But those that were listed are not known in mainstream..and is no where near the complete list of adult websites that signed.

It would make sense for Acacia to publish ALL of the names, so that people could know which companies to do business with and be "protected" if that was their reason for that wonderful email spam.

But to only single out a subset???

If I were a company that chose to settle, I would probably not want my name published all over the place. I wonder how these guys feel having their name listed like that?

Remember when CEcash's name was used on an Acacia PR back in the summer? They were looking to file some kind of countersuit that got people rooting for them.... wonder where that went?

The whole of Acacia's patents are BS. Their claims are akin to me saying my ancestors invented roads, how to use them and driving so now I'll patent that and charge everyone royalties to use it nowadays.

Just use all MS or some other large companies' media tech exclusively and they can't touch you without first winning against that company. Or, reside in a country where they have no patent, like Canada

It's really more like this - someone else built the roads, someone else invented cars, and now someone else wants royalties for the idea of driving the cars on those roads. It just doesn't fly.
