thats a good point win2k reinstall actually wipes the original, unlike previous versions of windows, but as i keep my program files on the same partition as windows i prefer to format so i can get fresh installs of everything. much cleaner in my opinion.

Accomplished. I now have Win 2K on C and E drive and they are bootable at will. It is done using the 4 Win 2K Setup Disks and the Win 2K CD. It still took a bit of trial and error...but like anything else is simple when you learn how to do it.

Step one...create the 4 Win 2K Setup disks.

Step two...boot up using the 4 Win 2K Setup disks.

Step three...delete...via the Win 2K CD...the drive that is not in current use.

Step four...partition...via the Win 2K CD...the drive that you just deleted.

Step five...format...via the Win 2K CD...the drive that you just partioned.

Step six...continue loading Win 2K CD.

Repeat this process and this will give you fresh installs on each drive.

Basically...once the Setup Disk tells you to insert the Win 2K CD just follow the instructions provided.

After you have an operating system on each hardrive...when you boot up you select which hard drive you want to boot too. If you have the same operating system on each hardrive you will have to visually remember which one to select.

yeah, but they're annoying to install, and i hate extra unnecessary cables adding to the clusterfuck in my case.

besides, as far as windows boxes, i haven't used a floppy in _years_. even boot up memory programs and stuff like memtest have bootable iso's now... lol.

i still use them on occasion, but only to install FreeBSD via ftp.

You can edit the boot.ini file on C: to idenetify which drive / version youire are booting to:
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT="Microso ft Windows 2000 Professional" /fastdetect
multi(0)disk(x)rdisk(x)partition(1)\WINNT="Microso ft Windows 2000 Professional on E" /fastdetect
