40 billion is a lot to rip out of iraq. But it is such petty change for the US. It will help offset the cost of the war... but that's about it.

Saddam was a real snake. He fucked France and Russia over good and owes them billions on loans he never payed back.

I think his outstanding loans were over $100 Billion.

That's probably half the reason they took him out. Its always about the money at the end of the day.

Actually, no they don't. Some members of congress wanted the US to get free or discounted oil from Iraq to pay some of the war costs but the administration argued that there should be no strings attached because it wouldn't look right and won that argument.

Without even counting the 224 Trillion cubic feet of natural gas they have also, at $30 Barrel that oil fortune is worth between $8 to $30 Trillion. Plus they have foreign assets of over $110 Billion invested worldwide.

The qualifier of course is that they have to maintain their tight grip on power to keep their wealth intact, which recently has started to look a bit shaky.

Saddam was #2 after them.
