some my respective Clients have very short tiny niches which could be easily leeched and re-used on other sites. that's why we have faced with content protection issue, and one of the ideas is the following one:

i.e. we will cut the image into 2 or 4 or more parts and show to users sliced (inside 1 table) - that would make impossible for users to d-load the picture - only view it in the browser.

ACHTUNG :: ATTENTION :: ----------------------------------

Now here is the question: would members love that feature?

There are some programs out there that do that already. We have one, but never tried it, because we don't know how the customer would react. If you (AWW) plan on implementing this, please make sure that you leave a way to turn it off.

By the way, not only would that possibly piss off lots of members, but savvy webmasters who really wanted to steal the content could still do a screencap of each picture. It might take them longer, but if they really wanted to steal it, they would.

well, I believe it could be nice to make this feature ON for trial members only and then make it OFF when they prolongate their memberships. and write that fact everywhere while they are browsing it.

Its an interesting idea. I'm curious as to how it'll play out on any sites you try it on.

Most Trial memberships are sold with " Unlimited full access for 3 full days" type deal. Now, you can pull an ARS and charge people at the end of the 2nd day, and make all your money that way.... which is probably the best method....

But, "full access" this idea would not be. Wonder how this would actually play out because some of you will reply that it'll still be full access, just a pain in the ass version.

I just don't see how this would be effective.

First of all, the members should be allowed to download pictures, they're not the ones you're worried about.

Webmasters are the ones that you are worried about stealing your pictures because they are the ones that could take rare niche content and make competing sites with it, but most webmasters would know how to screencap. And if the content was truly that rare, taking the time to screencap wouldn't be that big of a deal.

I think its a good idea for the trial memberships, but not for the full memberships. But can you seperate it that way? And the on/off feature would be pointless.

It's not really the same thing. I believe members should be allowed to save the pictures since they've already paid for them. I don't believe in making a user pay to see the same thing over and over. The motive to recur should stand with the frequent updates with NEW content. I wouldn't recur to see the same things over and over, but I might like to go back and vew old stuff occasionally and having the option to do that while offline is a nice bonus.

I can see where some people wouldn't like to have members saving the content, but I just think that once they've paid, they should be able to do that if they want to.

All our videos and pics have a copyright logo on them with the site address, I'm happy if members keep the videos and pics and spread them around the web.
Yes we all know that copyrights can be removed, but the surfers that take my content and spread it round and don't remove it GREAT. more free advertising for me.

You will just get -0- rebills and + on the revokes and will shut yourself down in no-time! MEMBERS are very picky these days and most of them could care the fuck less about a pic! they want MOVIES.. hello we are in the age of DSL-CABLE ....

Now apply that to movies....

There is some good ways now to protect your vids.

Best is flash conversion so far..

The members are *not* paying for the pictures. If they were, they'd get a license with each set they downloaded and they could legally argue that they own the pictures and can do whatever they wish with them. Go to your content provider and tell them that your members are paying for the pictures... see if they sell you any more content.

They are paying for *access* to your protected member's area. The Gold's Gym analogy is a perfect example.

The problem is simple, how many members download from sites to view on their own computer? 1 in 100, then you could be in trouble because he will charge back and that could be the straw to break the camels back.

The only way to stop theft is to put the producers name on the photo, not the website as that can be altered. There are too few ccontent producers around to make it easy to steal. But if you are frightened that your competitor will find your supplier then your name on the image/film.

Then when found everyone comes together to nail the thief. AVS, TGP, 3rd Party, Sponsors, Hosts, etc. we all cut him out. Problem now is back with us, will they turn off someone producing them money and if so how many?

If you want to keep your videos in safety - just upload them to your streaming server and give to users as streams. btw, our noob Adult-Engine already supports that noobie feature

another thing I'm wondering is why should I get 0 rebills if I would stop allowing trial members save pictures on their HDD and write a message everywhere that after prolongating their trial memberships to the full ones they will get FULL access to just everything and would be able to save pictures and even get ability to download whole galleries zipped (already in Adult-Engine). any suggestions?

Well for movies you can use DRM. So for example if a user joins on a trial and download the whole site and then they were to cancel you can suspend the movies. Take a look at http://xbiz.com/articles/index.php?article_idp=601 which I wrote some time ago.

DRM for Pictures is available but its not fool proof, you can make it harder for some one to copy the pictures but you cant prevent copying 100% and these solutions cost so much money that even the large studios don't use them.

A very big software vendor ( I am under NDA with them :-) ) is working on some solutions that you will see next year that can be applied to pictures.

Interesting feature - I think that there can't never be too many features.

With on / off of course, but how about option to enable it per gallery / directory basis. I.e. if you have 3rd party content & exclusive content you can "protect" just your own exlucive stuff.

Some members might not be happy... but generally it's sure worth of use with trial membership. "Get full membership, Get downloadable content!" I think it might help conversions - providing that youhave content people want.
