congrats! I am finding that the hardest part for me is working out. I have some tapes I actually like doing but the problem is that I really hate anyone watching me when I work out and it is near impossible in this place to get the tv room to myself as our computers are in there as well. Hubby is very supportive and would never make fun of me but I think 12 years of gym class traumatised me.

I'm working on getting a tv/vcr in the spare room upstairs so I can do it in a different part of the house so I don't feel pressured.

thats great news. I have a little advice. which you probably dont need. Do stop now. Gotta remember its a change in life style.

You might want to try having one cheat meal every third day. but still in moderation.

Besure to keep going to the gym. Even three times a week is significant. Maintain muscle.

Gradual weight lose due to a change in life style is the most successful.

I tip my hat to you. just something to think about. sorry to butt in.

Congrats man, I feel pretty motivated by this. Hell I just may give the gym at work a visit tommorow. It's open 24 hours a day, just never had the drive to do it.

Congrats I got down to 199 2 years back and then bounced back up, but working on it again.

What really knocked the weight off for me was doing 6 mile walks per day. I did about 2 miles of that on the beach and you burn extra calories walking on the sand. Took about 2 hours each day for this.

I just don't have the time right now and I'm doing 2 miles each day which is at least keeping me from gaining. But you need about 6 from what I tried to really see significant weight loss.

Using this method I was able to burn 30 lbs in about 4 months. Average of about 2 lbs each week.

Basically, you give your body a break. Just like you need a break yourself, your body might need a rest.

You're not supposed to eat more the next day.

There's tons of stuff about it on the net.

Yeah, a lot of people jumped on the anti-carb bandwagon with the Atkins diet, but carbs are one of the main fuels your body needs to get you through the workouts. The carbs help you get through the workouts so that you can stretch your muscles. After the carbs have been burned and your muscles are repairing themselves and building new muscle fiber your body converts the fat to help make the new muscle.
The trick is not to eat too much carbs because what you have left over can be converted to fat. Same with fat. Some people say you shouldn't eat ANY fat, but your body does need some fats to run regularly. It's all about balance.
I do allow myself a cheat day every few days. You have to otherwise you fall off the wagon and binge. It's like smoking, if you go cold turkey you have a harder time than if you take it step by step. I had Sloppy Joes tonight. I normally would easily eat 4, but tonight I only had 2. That is enough for me. I'm actually to the point where my stomach has shrunk some and if I eat too much I feel bloated. By eating some of the things I like every now and then and doing it in moderation I find it a lot easier to manage my appetite than by going cold turkey and only doing "healthy" foods.
Another big thing I have changed is eating late. I am a night owl and I usually would eat an extra meal late at night. Problem is I would usually go to sleep soon afterward and the food would sit in my stomach turing into fat without being burned for energy.
I reduced my late night eating and now I try to only have light snacks at night such as celery sticks, carrot sticks, maybe some grapes or a banana. I can tell that has helped because I don't go to bed with a full stomach now and in the morning I can really tell the difference in my weight. Doing a few situps or some light weights before bed helps also. If you're going to just lie there you might as well let your body burn some fat while you do it.
I'm not a fitness guru, but I have read up on the subject plenty and have found enough info to make some good choices that are working for me. There are some really good fitness boards out there that have a lot of good info. Once I get back from Vegas I'm going to make Scooter start going to the gym with me everyday. Having a workout partner should really help me go the extra mile.

See everyone in Vegas! Only a week from today! Yahoo!

How can that be healthy not to mention you cant be productive that day at all.
Not so. I'm working and all.

It's true that I feel a pinch or two of hunger during the evening - but then I drink some water.

Actually, the brain works better while fasting. It's like the body takes the energy usually used for digesting food and gives it to the brain.

In the long run, it's very good for your body and you'll lose weight (or maintain your ideal weight).

I never said it's for everyone - but it works for me.

Congrats. At 5'9" I should be like 160, when I crept up to 202 I looked in the mirror and was terrified. Since then 1200 calories a day and a 40 minute workout 7 days a week, lost 10 lbs. in the first 20 days.

I'm ready now for definition and strength training, can't decide between the bowflex extreme and a universal, anybody have any ideas?

Congrats Zebra! Losing weight is something many need to do...Not only for appearance, but for health reasons.

If you want to escape the Venetian and go to a real gym while here in Vegas, give me a shout. I can probably get a guest pass for ya.

That's awesome!

I just read something yesterday that one of the side effects of Atkins is hair loss. OMG.

I did the Suzanne sommers diet a few years ago (much like Atkins) and ended up in the hospital.

I think everyone is right. Lose slow, eat healthy and work out.

I hope you keep us updated with your progress.

Keep it going bud, i've done workout for about 2 years, but not that much as you did. Though it worked great for me.

The hardest part is when your body is perfect, you tend to stop going to the gym, just "because it's already perfect". As soon as you stop going to the gym, the weight will come back! Watch that!

After the LA show in November I decided I had to do something with myself. I was at 268lbs, my all time high. My energy was low and my self-esteem was not too great when it came to my physical appearance. I joined a gym a couple miles from my house that was open 24 hours a day and started going every day, rain or shine, whether I was sleepy, tired, in a shitty mood, etc.
After going to the gym every day for the past 5 weeks and doing my best to watch what I eat I have been watching the pounds drop off as I added muscle. Yesterday I weighed in at 251.6 lbs and went to the gym for 3 hours, pushing myself till my whole body burned.
I woke up this morning and weighed in at 249.2 lbs. You have no idea how encouraging it is to hit a goal like that.
I feel so damn satisfied that I am going to the gym today to push it even further ( I normally take Sundays off). I want to hit 245lbs by Vegas next week. I know I can do it if I stick to it. I've been told I'll never look skinny because of my body type, but because of that I can put on muscle to replace fat and at least look healthy. I don't care as long as I feel good about myself!

Anyone want a workout partner for Vegas? I'm game!
Workout in Vegas you got it.

Just got back from an early day/late night at the gym.
I finally got down to 240 lbs.
Thought I would have hit 240 before this but I didn't count on muscle gain offsetting the weightloss.
As long as my body fat goes down I am happy.
Lost 2 pants sizes since Vegas and my stomach is getting flat. Can't ask for more than that!

I have to thank two very special people who have inspired me.
I couldn't do it without Hans and Franz constantly calling me a "girlie man".

Congrats man.

I need to lose weight but I have a very hard time with finding a right kind of diet. my taste in food is unusual in that I eat practically no vegetables. I love meat and pasta and stuff like that.
