In regard to the vegas / terrorist thread.

Situation:

Warnings for possible terrorist activity in LA and Vegas.
Warnings for flights with Air France as the terrorists want to use that company.
Im flying to LA in a few days with Air France.
Air France already pulled a few flights to LA and possibly will do that with my flight as well if this situation doesnt get better.

In that other thread ive been called a pussy, stupid, you name it and the last great comment was made by Pipecrew saying "in other words you are broke" Because of that comment he made it to my shitlist btw - fuck you asshole.

Anyway, everybody called me a pussy because instead of acting like a tough guy like you all are i simple thought about things.

Knowing the situation id like to know how many people of you would take this flight.

Not wanting to die doesn't necessarily mean thinking about what comes after death. You should realize that choosing to take or not to take risks is something you decide while alive. So, you are in effect making a choice: many more years to live and to fulfil the things I wanted to do with my life or risk only living for two more days (or whatever).

If your perspective is 100 years from now (when you are dead) it doesn't make a difference... fairly obvious since you don't have a perspective, you're dead. But your perspective is based in the present.

If you value your life (e.g. you experience life as something mostly positive), the longer life is most definitely the preferable option.


Your reasoning is flawed in 2 ways:
- You take an "after the fact" perspective, while the actual perspective is from the present.
- You mistake "not living" for "being dead". Atheists who don't want to die don't "fear being dead", they prefer living over "not living" (nothing) from their present perspective.

I make decisions every day that I will have completely and utterly forgotten in a few years. Still, that doesn't mean that they are meaningless at the moment of taking them.

From an objective perspective, what you think or feel before death is indeed a moot point. However, humans are subjective beings living in their own little subjective world, and what is important to them is whatever they feel is important. Objective reality doesn't have to have anything to do with that.

I don't blame you for taking precautions and getting advice from someone, but like you said, I would have rephrased the question or probably asked someone totally different. It's not paranoia, it's about risk assessment. The risk is extremely low.

As you said the probability of Battuss getting hit by a car, murdered or struck by lightening or shark attack are much higher.

Las Vegas shouldn't have been mentioned at all as there was no specific threat as far as I recall. The local authorities here are pissed because now we will get 900,000 visitors for New years Eve instead of 950,000.

Regarding Air France, weren't the flights cancelled for just these two days?

Remember now Internext is like 10 days away and it is very likely the threat will be downgraded or forgotten about by then and instead we will all be worrying about looking for vegetarian buffets to avoid mad cow.
