Four Months ago and $100,000 in check returns later I pulled the check option off all my sites, the fact is surfers figured out that they can easily enter bogus check information and gain access.

The last thing someone who is defrauding you wants is his phone number to be on file.

The system I now have in place forces anyone who wants to signup with a check to call in this automated system.

Nothing is foolproof but I believe instead of seeing 80% returns ill see 5%.

Feel free to test it by going to http://www.doctortushy.com/joinnow.html scroll down and select the link to join by check.

Feel free to call in and block your number then enter the code you get online, its all integrated etc.

Well it only accepts calls from US and Canada and the database I have lists 70% of phones (many smaller companies own them now etc. that dont report to the FCC)

I dont care if people use a cell phone, it will still take me right to who owns it, as many here know I can trace any phone.

This is more of a Deterrent then anything else, I know ill still see returns and I wont bother running after them but the goal was to deter the person from entering BS and most wont once they see these guys have nmy number.

Most will call using *67 and will be shocked what they hear.

Ive been asking ccbill for years to do something about this shit. I asked them a few yrs ago to at least make them confirm an email address or something that would scare off some of these thieves.

this will cut back on probably 99% of the check scamming, the other 1% will just be the deadbeats that don't even have 30 bucks in their checking account

As far as people calling from cell phones or calling cards - with ANI2 you can identify these types of calls & require the call back from a land line.

I'm not sure if EB set things up like this, but the options are there if it becomes a problem.

I pitched this idea to a couple bigs in the industry but they didn't think it would go over well.

Too bad.

I think that using checks with a verification system like this could become a valid REPLACEMENT for credit card transactions for US and canadian customers.

Well its more that cell phones are mobile and potentially anonymous... ie "dude.. can I use your phone for a second?"

ANI2 can identify a call from a cell phone, and alert the system, so the system would be able to play back a prompt "Call us back from your land line." for example.

Calls originated from calling cards also have a unique identifier with ANI2.

506 855 3777 , out of that the 506 is right, the 855 is a number for my city. Maybe it's just unable to grab number from the network my cell is on

Yup most payphones will get the same message and as time goes on different cel phones will be blocked too and many calling card access numbers.

This system will work very well - Of course, it will have a few failures because of not being able to locate the correct #
But to get a perfect system to locate all would take a phenominal outlay, far exceeding what you could recoup in checks alone over several years.

Eb has created a deterrent, which will stop a very high % of fraudsters from continuing a transaction .

Good idea if you are really worried about check returns. Ours are not that high. I have been running checks forever, and at one point playing with things, got up to 40% of our joins with checks.

Not perfect, but good. I would think you lose some legit people who are too lazy to call, or would have to log offline to call.

I have been running checks forever, and at one point playing with things, got up to 40% of our joins with checks. Not perfect, but good.
