what is current workaround for WMP9 problem?

hello-

i know this may be an old subject, but what is the current "fix" for this problem. windowsmediaplayer9 will play movies fine in the visitor areas of the site, but we get a "Windows Media Player encountered an unknown error." when trying to access the same mpg file in the password protected member's area.

but, when using netscape and quicktime the videos in the member's area play fine.

using wmp9 and most current IE.

any thoughts?

thanks!

Isn't there a patch from microsoft from a while back ago, it's a patch for IE?

I don't remember exactly!

JDog, i've spent most of the day downloading patches

there most be an easy fix for this other than telling everyone to use netscape.

Hrmm, are you hosting these movies from directly inside the members area or are you using a .htaccess referal file to protect them, cause if this is the case I don't know a way aroudn it.

If your using mpegs in a normally protected members area you should be fine with any of the current windows media players 9 and below, 9 isn't a problem I think the way you have your movies setup in the members area is the problem.

How are your movies setup and how are they protected?

the members area are password protected thru ccbill/ibill individual logins

what's weird is that by accessing the member's area using netscape and quicktime the mpg files play fine (files have ".mpg" extensions.

windows media player9 will play this file fine in visitor area:

http://www.costa-rica-girl.com/sharlotte.mpg

if i put "sharlotte.mpg" inside password protected member's area it will start to load then wmp9 will give a
"Windows Media Player encountered an unknown error."

but if the surfer accesses the same file inside the member's area using netscape (with quicktime) the file will load and play fine.

drives me nuts
