Direct TV vs. Dish Network - GoFuckYourself.com

I know NOTHING about sat. tv. I have been a cable man for as long as cable boxes have been around.

I am looking at Direct TV and Dish Network. I am a big Tivo fan, and both say they have it.

What would / did you go with? Why?

DirecTV is the way to go. DishNetwork is slow crap. Tivo is great =) I prefer Ultimate TV over Tivo but Microsoft stopped making ultimate TV. You can still pick them up on Ebay though.

Fuck a dish if you have other choices.
Go with a good digital cable co.

Both Dish Network & Direct TV suck during heavy rain & cloud cover. Loose signal in and out, it's a pain in the ass! I grew up where a dish was the only alternative so I know 1st hand. Even had sattelite 2-way internet.

I have never been so happy with my fast cable internet and digital on demand cable.

A lot depends on where you live as Dish Network doesn't have locals in a lot of the medium and small sized markets.
Personally I would go with DirecTV. It's what I have.

If you have a shitty installation you'll get crappy reception. For the most part the shitty reception is due to some fool who installed their own years ago or a lazy installer. You can also get covers for them that supposedly help with weather though I have never found the need for one and others swear by them.

you can lose cable if some drunk hits a pole and wipes out the shit man ya can lose anything i got dtv and i do not lose my signal my neighbor used to lose his all the time till i went to his house and installed his enw oval dish and got him a nice signal he has had 0 outages now dtv is the way to fly as said for sports i ahve cable and dtv so doesnt matter

When we have really intense storms in Florida my DTV usually displays the Searching For Satellite Signal screen for a few seconds intermittenly. There's not much you can do about other than get a really big dish.

well KRL i live in florida as well and i think ive lost my signal 2 or 3 times in a few yrs not to bad and i bet my cable has went out 2 time sor more in the past few yrs

again it is all how well your dish is installed but nothing will be up 100% the time

Had DTV since 2000, nice service.

One question: We have 3 receivers with a dual LMB dish. My system sends the signal to a central hub (OnQ Box) in my laundry room and splits the signal to rooms with the receivers.

We have one of those signal splitters thats supposed to work with up to 4 recievers. One of the 3 recievers has problems picking up all the stations the other 2 are fine. I bought one of those signal boosters but it didnt do the trick. Anyone else have this problem?

i had the same thing happen with me but i was on DishNetwork. Dish 500 with Dual LNB's. It's a similar setup as DirectTV.

I noticed that when one had a problem picking up on 1 reciever as you described, I would go and turn on one of the other units and then it would work. Eventually I would just leave the recievers always on and turn just the tvs off and on. Never really figured out why and eventually I moved where there was good cable.

Damn, does everyone in porn live in Florida. I've had DirecTV before and liked it for the most part, except when it rains and storms. Currently I have Comcast Digital Cable and its cool, but when I initially got it, the damn Cable Guy knocked out the lines in the whole area while installing mine. It took another day for them to resolve it.

Get an oval dish it has mulit-switch with four outs, give each box its own cable.

I had DirecTV with UltimateTV, I am now on Dish and it's much better.

The only thing better about DTV is that they have the optional NFL package, that;s it.

If you want Tivo, DTV was a lot more $ for me. Also, DTV requires a connection to a phone line.

And did I mention the Radio remote kicks DTVs ass?

I agree with ya on that. I have Charter Digital service in my area and it ROCKS. A nice fast internet connection and all of my channels.

IF you have cable modem access rite now, you might wanna check with your cable company before ya go because I know that Charter will charge you like $10 for your cable modem IF you don't have their cable television.

One other thing to keep in mind is that places like Direct TV will lock you into a 1 or 2 year contract, so once you sign on the dotted line and if you don't like it, you're fucked paying extra money to get outta it.

Either sat. is good however dish network is cheeper.

We have cable in kitchen, office, gym etc. & have dish network in media room & master bedroom.. Cable sucks as only a few chanels are digital however when it is heavy rain dish does not work, however alot has to do with where you have the dish installed..

But if want an opinion on which is best..directv by far over dish.
