Which legitimate host will be the first to allow LEGAL spam?

And what will the upstream providers do now that there is legal spam?

Most mainstream data centers already do a lot of spamming, you'd be suprised.

I'm not suprised, most affiliate progs allow spam etc. Spam is an important cashflow for a ton of companies but they try to hide that fact with "We don't tolerate any spam" shit all over their site. And the upstreams don't like it either. I'm just wondering if there will be one that comes out and provides the service.

Could be a fuckload of money involved.

Haha, no doubt. And the fact that you have to put a real address is going to cause problems. Anti's are like fucking nazi's. I'm sure there will be some shootings at legal spam offices some time in the future.

I know some hosting companies are reading this. Come on, give us your take on the new law. Are you definitive one way or the other or are you waiting on someone else to step up first?

This thread links to the full article.

But basically spammers have 120 days to comply after Jan 1st. After that, spam is legal if you follow the new rules.

I can't wait to see what spin-friendly new marketing word they come up with. Double-opt in, mass mailers, bulk mailing, etc.. are all already stigmatized.

They could have done it before.

Edit: And it's better than the anti's getting their way and locking spammers up for 20 years for sending fucking email.

Several states have spam laws and Cali had a tough one that was supposed to go into effect Jan 1st.

When was spam ever illegal (except for certain states)??? The reasons for hosts not allowing spam, is because they don't want their ips put on a blacklist. It never had to do with it being illegal, because it never has been (except for a few states). Having a hosts ip put on a blacklist has nothing to do with the laws and government.

well... ya they signed the bill.. but what difference will that make for the hosting companies? the only reason they don't host people right now is from black lists.. you get your own ips and any host will host you and put up with complaints for a while until upstream bitches.. so how would mailing make any difference? spamhaus.org rules state "if these are opt in emails you should NOT use a remove link, they should not remove themselves if they opted in to recieve this" but on the bush shit it says opositite.. so spamhaus will still block your mail and the hostings ip.. nothing really changed

I remember back in the old days when Cyberpromo "Spamford Wallace" was around, the backbone agis.net would actually promote that they allowed spam. I had a half rack with them and a few mbps. Was nice while it lasted. I have a feeling backbones won't be advertising it like this again no matter what laws exist.

It's all going to be on the "Hush, Hush and on the QT" if so.

You can bet SpamHaus , SpamCop, SPEWS and anti-spam software vendors will LOVE the US I-CAN-SPAM law.

Since it is illegal to hide behind proxies, forged headers and since you have to LABEL porn/adult SPAM and include a VALID company mailing address, spamming scumbags and their hosts will be blacklisted, tracked and blocked quite easily. The hosts that decide to take spammer money will find themselves on their own intranet.

I suggest all those whose want to scrub their email and route the crap to the trash where it belongs .... check out http://spampal.org for a great freeware filter that uses all the blocklists and Regex filter COMBINED.
