AMD babeey..!
My system is rigged with a cheap but wonderful XP 2200+ (=1800 MHz), overclocked to 1995 MHz and 333 MHz FSB instead of 266. AMD is good for ALL kinds of tasks, heck.. it whoops Intels ass at many things looking at "per-MHz". Intel-fans just diss AMD 'cause they don't like the "I got ripped off"-feeling Intel brings...

You will have many people on low budgets think of every reason to justify their lack of cash flow and buying an AMD.
Rule #1 - Stick with the defacto standard, and the leader in an industry. |

Well... If the P4's were'nt available with 800MHz FSB I'd REALLY laugh at 'em...
The P4 has got THAT going for it, otherwise it's inferior to AMD's stuff ![]() It's not all about budget, there are fools who think that as long as they pay up the most they'll get the best... <br>

AMD and Intel is the same junk. I've run both and there isnt much of a difference. The one thing I will say, if you are buying AMD, dont skimp out on the motherboard or heatsink. AMD's definitely run hotter than Intel and if you dont cool them properly you will burn out your cpu and motherboard. Get a decent board and it will shut off before any damage is done.

I used to maintain a server farm with in excess of 3000 servers. I would never think of introducing AMD systems into an environment where stability and performance were crucial. Because neither are produced under AMD, no matter what the Linux people say. AMD has moved forward marginally because of the Linux "We hate capitalism" mindset. So instead of buying what is the better machine they shit on Intel because of its success. |

It all boils down to this. Performance vs performance. Intel excels at certain things and AMD excels at other things. Only thing is, you can tweak your AMD to make up for what intel excels at.
If you get an AMD for the love of god get a decent cooling setup. A thermaltake volcano 7+ is just perfect for most cases. Get a decent power supply with at least 150w TOC under full load and kicking 3volt rails. Intel are for those who like to set and forget and take it as it is. AMD is for those who want more out of their system than what comes in the box. |

Ok, one thing about the stability-jive...
AMD's gotten a bad reputation there, but trust me... That's due to all those cheapass chipsets that are used on MoBo's. That part is a whole lot better nowadays. I would'nt want to run servers with AMD+VIA for instance but i would if the mobo has a stable chipset. If you're gonna run an AMD in your desktop and want stability (who the hel does'nt?), accept no VIA chipsets under KT333 on the mobo and you'll be fine. BTW - I'm using WinXP & I'm slightly capitalistic ;)
