What model do you have? I've never been big on watches so I have no clue as to how much these watches retail for besides a generic answer of 20k or more. Always seemed kind of crazy to even think of paying that much for a watch but that damn commercial made me think differently. Good advertising.

I've had one for a few years. I've never been a big fan of Rolex and I'm not bling blingish but that made me become a convert. I have the red and blue version.

I have two. Not a great pic, but I'm not a photog.

One is a Ladies Datejust with diamond dial and mother of pearl face. My newest one (on the right),thanks to reward points, is a Yachmaster with sapphire and diamond dial in the mother of pearl face. I can't get a good pic of it, it's too shiny.

I'm not a huge fan of the Rolex's but I am getting a serious hard on for some of the new Breitling and Omega watches.

i like rolex - currently have a movado... but the more i think about it i'm going to buy one used one or two years old- 1/2 price or less and you can resell it for what you paid for it or thereabouts quick if ever necessary....

i don't think i'm ever going to buy any new good jewlery ever again... too much of a loss once you open the package.

Custom ordered the Cellini, but then when it got in and I wore it for a couple of weeks I knew it was too foofoo for me. The jeweler allowed me to do a straight across trade for the ladies yachtmaster and I love it. I could buy one of the solid gold full of diamond puppies, but I'm too casual to ever wear something like that and look right.

im in the jewelry biz, when you pay retail you will never get the value for it ever again.. people seem to believe that because they pay 500$ for a bracelet, that its worth 500.. after its sold retail, its only worth as much as someones willing to buy it from you at, or its scrap value.. the estate market is big though, especially for custom pieces.

when you buy rolex, just keep up with services on it, and the watch will last forever.. it's something you can hand down to children, grandchildren, etc.. movado is laughed at by most watch makers, theyre made very poorly compared to other companies.

I have a Rolex Datejust 18kt with ss jubilee bracelet and the Airking (cheaper...but I like it better for some reason). I love both of them though...the whole oyster perpetual winding amuses me.

Sleazy.. I disagree on depreciation of jewelry. I have a tanzanite ring, 3.3 carat oval (almost marquise) cut tanzanite stone with two trillion cut diamonds (on on either side) that I purchased in 1999 for $7500. Today the tanzanite stone alone is worth 4 times that.

My one vice is jewelry. Most of my purchases have been through a jewerly maker named LeVian. The pieces are each handmade, stamped and number. They are considered collectibles by many.

PK, theres 2 kinds of people that wear jewelry.. People that deserve to wear it (like royalty in ancient times), these people usually enjoy custom pieces and understand its value, and why its priced at a premium.

then theres people that see diamonds in newspaper ad's for $300 per carat, and rush to get it. they buy shit and dont understand why its worthless afterwards.. these are the people that get robbed in the business.

example, recently 2 guys came to my store for diamond's for engagement rings, one guy wanted to spend $4000, the other guy wanted to spend $5000.

the $5000 guy insisted on size over color/clarity.. he ended up with a stone around 1.50cttw but not as much quality

the $4000 guy insisted on quality, he ended up with a smaller stone, but better cut clarity and color.

the $4000 guy will have a stone that is always in demand, years from now.. the $5000 guy will have to sell to a person/jeweler and lose money on his investment, because theres no demand..

I agree wholeheartedly.

I'm a pain when it comes to jewerly. If my kids don't bury me in it, they can at least live off of it ;)

A couple of years ago, I upgraded my diamond stud earrings. Knowing that most earrings are lower in quality, I went to my jeweler (I only use one) and told them what I wanted. Essentially I wanted two 1 carat better than average quality solitaires to be mounted in platinum earring settings. They found 8 for me to choose 2 from. I love them.

At the last LeVian trunk show at my jewelers, I spotted a non-LeVian setting that I liked as a ring for my index finger, but it was all diamonds and very poor quality diamonds. I wear mostly diamonds and sapphires. I mentioned to the LeVian rep that I wished they had something similar but in sapphires circling a diamond. Well... he bought the setting and sent it to New York for them to use as a basis to custom make the ring I want with enough of their own touches so they aren't stepping on anyone's design. It's due in any day now and I can't wait. It will be a true one of a kind.

yeah usually when it comes to designer lines, theyre very flexibble when it comes to which stones you want, what karat gold or plat, etc. if your jeweler is in contact with a rep like you said, there should never be a problem with customizing a little.

we just opened accounts with some nice designers like Daniel K ( www.danielk.net ) and this indian guy whose company is named Vibhor (he has machines that make better work then Tiffanys for half the price)

Nap, you are on the right path. I have various 'expensive' watches including an overly expensive Cartier but the one that always seems to get the most attention is the red and blue Rollie. You just don't see as many people wearing them. If you look hard enough you can find an all red and gold one that is crazy. Who knows about resale value but they don't cost that much anyway.

Those are my biz partner's. Rolex is a presidential and the bracelet was custom made for the presidential with the same band, 10 carats in princess cut diamond.

MikeFold..

they had one of the sodalite diamond dials at my jewelers when I got the yachtmaster. Only thing is they only do them on certain styles and band types. I already have an oyster perpetual datejust (in my pic above) so I didn't want another watch just like what I had except all white gold or steel. I like the two-tone gold and steel. They only do the sodalite on 'white metal or blue leather bands. So it ruled it out for me. It's very pretty close up. From a distance it looks like a standard blue dial. Kind like my original mother of pearl that looks white, but really isn't when it catches the light. Alot of their new mother of pearl faces are either 'black/grey" or pink. Neither is my idea of MOP. That's why I got the yachtmaster as my second watch. The MOP face on it is white and alot more noticable as a shell than my datejust. Also it has diamond and sapphire points in the dial which goes with 99% of the jewelry I wear.
