82 Yr Old Woman Killed by 7 Pitbills

This is sad..
http://www.cnn.com/2003/US/South/12/....ap/index.html

Owner was 67 years old with 7 of these dogs. I swear people should have special licenses just to have 1.

Maybe if people wanting to own one were required to go through some training, pay an extra fee of some sort and be required to hold an insurance policy in case they hurt someone, they might be more responsible owners.

In the case of the dogs mentioned in the article, there had been previous instances of people being bitten by the dogs and the local animal control agency dropped the ball big time.

Can you say "sued"?

If a dog is aggresive it's mostly the fault of the owner but you can never trust a dog 100%.
Problem with pitbulls is they are aggressive once they go into attack mode and if they bite they won't let go easily.
If you can't handle a dog don't get a dog.

Generally if someone has 7 Pit Bulls they're training them to fight or they're somehow deficient in the head. NOBODY needs 7 Pit Bulls, they DO NOT get along with each other as adults and when you have that many together it will devolve into a Lord of the Flies situation.

The problem with pits is all these inbreds and Republicans who want to keep them because they think they're tough, which they are, and they try to make them mean too. Then they wonder why someone got attacked.

The part that makes me sick to my stomach is that a 82 year old helpless woman got mauled for over 10 minutes... one minute of getting attacked by one dog can inflict serious damage....sad, I feel for her family having to deal with the violence that this woman suffered.

Ive owned hunting Pits and they really need to be under control at all times...7 dogs is uneccesary..they are then a pack..just like wolves and will go for the kill. My dog loved humans but you couldnt get her near any other animals without risking their demise...she was a animal death machine.

sounds like you were talking about cars?

people, don't blame the animal it's the owners, my mother owned a female pit and was an AWESOME dog, very well behaved, intelligent, loved people, etc...

as Dirty_DS said, it's HOW you raise them....

hell while we're on the subject of licensing and stupid people, we need to enact some laws on parental licensing...

hell if people aren't responsible enough in this world to raise kids right in many cases, why would we think they could raise dogs with a propensity to act like animals?

;-)

PS: Trivial pursuit knowledge here...

What's the breed of dog that has the highest incidents of biting?

the Dalmatian....not the most leathal, sure, but the most bites...

If you buy your Pitbull from Ramon the drug pusher, chances are it will be an aggressive dog. If you buy it from a respected breeder, and raise it with care, you will have a very good dog.

The breed is fine - it has just been handled like shit for pussy ass street thungs to use/abuse as some kind of security blanket/phallic symbol.

Well bred/raised Pitbulls are no more dangerous than any dog with a good bite that is aggressive.

And there is the truth. It's all about where the dog came from and how it was raised.

Anyone that owns SEVEN dogs, regardless of breed has a serious problem. I'm not talking about owning a kennel or having them to breed or show but your ordinary person can't handle taking care of 1 dog properly, let alone seven. Someone mentioned up there ^ that it becomes a pack and that's the reality. A pack of predators that one person can't possibly control.

I'm willing to bet that 99% of the pit bull attacks are due to the types of people drawn to owning a "tough" dog with a rep and not being able or willing to train it properly.

ouch

Broom was found by the dogs' owner, Robert Freeman, 67. He said the dogs were attacking the woman when he arrived, and speculated that the attack had gone on for at least 10 minutes.

10 mins

We wanted to get one, but the local bylaws require 300$ annually for a dangerous dog license, (normal dogs are 35$) and they must be kept outside in a run with 6 walls, meaning they must have 4 walls, a ceiling, and a floor. In public they must be muzzled at all times and never offleash. It's a bit of overkill, but if it prevents incidents like that, then hey, I'm all for it. The dogs are a sweet breed, but they do need special handling by experienced owners. Not by Rosco at the car impound lot.

We used to train dogs. Narcotics/police dogs ( not Schuzhund either), personal protection, guard dogs etc. Our very best personal dog ever was our English Pointer, anyway, having alot of experience with dogs and owning several Pitbulls over the years, I can tell you that the problem with the pitbull came into being due to their popularity and inbreeding. A pit with good bloodlines is no more dangerous than any other breed of simular size and ability. So you take an inbred pit, owned by someone that gets one because they are tough and you end up with a lethal combination (there is no control of a crazy inbred pitbull)

There was a family that lived in a small townhome that needed to find a good home for their pitbull. We went to meet the family ( husband, wife and 2 small kids) and the dog, Jake. He was a house dog and very loving and friendly, licking faces, really a gorgeous friendly animal. UNTIL we got him home. We had him in the house, he was on the couch getting to know us and all of the sudden he was baring his teeth about 2 inches from my face. Luckily my husband had a leash on him and pulled him off balance before he could rip my face off. It was downhill after that....he would mash his teeth against the glass door when he would see me and the kids.

Being removed from his family was enough to put him into a rage that could not be controlled. We were going to have him nuetered, took him to the vet, vet dosed him with meds and Jake still attacked the vet, thankfully he was muzzeled at the time. We ended putting him down that day.

Pitbulls have gotten a bad rap, it's sad, but unless the dog comes from a reputable breeder that can proove the lineage of his breeding, I wouldn't chance getting one. It's like having a time bomb.

It's too bad that someone else had to die like that.

This is for the same reason as the pitbulls. The dog went way up in popularity, people started inbreeding. In Dalmations, a big problem is deafness, well inbreeding caused alot more of this and other problems. A deaf dog is more likely to bite out of fear and being startled. Granted, not as serious of a bite as an aggressive dog, but it can happen to any popular breed of dog...inbreeding caused alot of problems.

The Dalmatian is a hunting dog, they are very playful so they also bite a lot.

I got bit by one as a small child and it just tossed me around like a ragdoll.... that is the only breed of dog I've ever had a "bad encounter" with.

My ex owned one of those wolf hybrid dogs and it was the biggest baby in the world. Someone could break in and that thing would have just licked the robbers face.

I agree with most..........it's all about how the animal is cared for and raised.

Well I have had many dogs.

I would say my German Shepard is the best!

Only time he ever nips if you tease him with food!

I have a 7 year old son, and they are best of friends.

The other 2 dogs I have - are FOOD Begger's

My Shepard runs about 110 pounds. a tall one.

ALL depends on how you raise your pet.
