Of course there are. My theory is that the slow aclimation to the idea by doing more and more convincing TV shows is the governments plan. If they had told everyone in the 60s that aliens were visiting us, I think the world might have come to an end. As it is, in another 10-20 years it will be almost no big deal. I'd like to believe in life on other worlds...you can't ignore the fact that the universe holds endless possibilites, the recent research into Io, Jupiter's moon shows the possibility for other life close by. If aliens have landed on earth they'd need to be lightyears ahead of us in technology and propulsion...we can dare to dream.
Hey I once read this theory that stated that the universe is so vast, that it's been here so long, and that the chance of inhabitable worlds is so great that the chance of aliens NOT contacting life on earth is slim. I think the odds of a intelligent life form a) existing in the same time frame as us 2) be in close enough proximity to visit us 3) be advanced enough in their evolution at that point in time to have the technology for space travel is unlikely.
Pretty much everything people consider ufos is the government testing shit. They tested the stealth stuff, etc for years before they came out with it.
And thats just the stuff the come out with. Im sure they are testing plenty of stuff that they just cant get perfect enough to get to a production level. And they arent going to come out to the public with info about it. It could realistically crash the global economy and start a global revolution. War, Famine , shit like that. An awesome responsibility to say the least. Who would you choose to lead the world in this time of rediscovery? No one I know or have even heard of installs that much confidence.
There are some who say that the mainstream media is slowly preparing us for this big news through shows like the X-files, Star-Trek, etc. While this is laughable at first it does make sense in a way. What better way to condition people than through a medium that they are already completely preoccupied with?
I don't know any of the answers and the possibilites are certainly limitless. The ideas of extraterrestrial or supra-terrestrial life doesn't scare me much. However, keeping in mind that people are nervous, jumpy, dangerous animals, their inevitable reaction to this kind of news frightens me to the core of my being.[email protected]

The Advent of Aliens the world populace is ready for.
Religeon wouldnt be a factor. But wars would be inevitiable as what races the aliens interacted with would become "targets".

However it is underway as we study gravitational effects in matter then move on to study methods to direct and induce gravitational fluxes within an area of space be it terrestrial or non terrestrial.
If ya can picture using "Fold" space technology for Mining in the first phases would be a time the human race will induce a fold somewhere in space to grab material to mine materials from.

thanx for all the great feed back. i have always been fascinated by this. i guess the real question here is NOT the matter of weither they exist. the universe is infinite and will be around for an infinite amount of time. therefor, an infinite amount of things will happen. life will arraise again and again.

But to answer your question there are two reasons why the government isn't answering:
1.) Because it's all bullshit and the government has more shit to deal with like terrorists and race wars.
2.) Test it yourself. Walk into a room full of people and scream out " MOUSE! " or " SNAKE! " or " Ewww look at that big bug! " and watch damn near 80% of the people try to trample one another getting out. Now, let's say there are ETs visiting Earth and look like the descriptions people have given like 9 ft tall praying mantis' or 6ft tall reptile people with scalpels. You try shouting that out over the airwaves and you'll be cleaning up shit stains from here to the great wall of china.
My recommendation:
