i guess this question pretty much applies to any vice, whether it be drugs, sex, gambling, or whatever - but how do you really classify the difference between recreation and a problem? granted, a lot of it is personal interpretation but is there a universally recognized point where enough is enough?

I think any vice is a problem if:

1. it's severely hurting your ability to live responsibly (i.e. pay bills, be a good family person, etc).

2. it affects your health mainly and noticeably because of overuse or overindulgence.

Everyone's point and POV will be different, but here are a few of fthe top of my head:

When you are hiding what you are doing from loved ones.

When you have a desire to stop, but find yourself engaging in the same behavior anyway.

When you are selling possessions (needed or non-needed) in order to finance said activity.

I had a gambling problem many, many years ago. Quite a serious one. It's not quite like alchoholism as you know when you have a gambling problem - however the fact that you know doesn;t stop you doing it.

My cure was simply having to bring up lots of children at the time. They came first so the gambling stopped. Took a bankruptcy to sort the bills out though
