I would fight that in the Human Rights Court in Strassbourg, why are these 12 people qualified, especially religieus groups, yeeeeeeeeezzzz, they'd probably make kiddie porn legal, as so many of their members do it, what happened to fucking your maid (catholic priests can't marry, so they have a "maid")?

Sorry to hear it Sleazy, but honestly I don't see what kind of recourse they'd have against you. So you're "indexed". Whoop-dee-fuckin'-doo.

... but I'd sure as hell *not* call your local State Department office (unless you wanna get onto Herr Ashhahahahaha's Christmas card list)... just my :2 cents:

tradermcduck 12-09-2003 02:44 AM

Sleazy,

I guess someone from Germany will soon post here and give you some details about the German porn legislation - it's early morning here in Europe.

Basically there is no need to panic about the letter you have got. Nearly everything is monitored by this institution (e. g. computer games, movies etc.). Of course they will come to the conclusion your site is 'hardcore porn' which is not illegal in Germany but everyone under the age of 18 must be protected from this content (same in the U.S.). The only difference is that German law is more strict about the 'Age Verification Process' (has nothing to an AVS).

If I were you I would filter german traffic and send it to a special page with a 'german AVS' (I can send you some links) which means german surfers have to enter some digits in their driver license or passport to prove they are over 18.

Another solution would be to send the filtered traffic to a Sleazydream page in german with softcore content (tits, no pussy). For this content you don't need an AVS in Germany. You could use german sponsors on this page. If you have more than 10,000 german visitors per day this most profitable(!!) solution.

If you have any further questions or need some help feel free to email me - my free email address is 'tradermcduck AT yahoo.com'

Actually it isn't an issue where any kid can get a credit card. The German consumer actually has to send in a few forms of ID and payment into a central registry to truely prove that they are 18. The sites then have to check against that registry. So, it is a true Adult Verification System but nothing like the AVS's that we are used to.

It is still very fucked if not more so.

Rick,

you wish this would be the case. If it were, we would be happy, but its not really so simple. Its a whole big gray area which is just slowly being filled in. There is no OFFICIAL government agency out there that runs an AVS, if there were one, it would kick ass. Currently, there are multiple AVS systems out there that all do their own little thing. Just a few months ago a new law came into effect which makes it all a lot stricter. Now AVS systems have to get certified by the government before they can be used, but when they are then using them is good enough for the gov. So thats a good thing I guess.

The requirements for passing the certification are kinda silly though and I am no expert on them so I really do not know a lot about it.

SomeCreep 12-09-2003 03:15 AM

Ridiculous, ignore it like if it were spam.

they go on to say that if/when I'm included in the 'index' I'm prohibited from using teasers, trailers, or other adverising content and subject to criminal prosecution

Hey sleazy. All big US sites got letters from them and are on the index really. I'm amazed you did not get one sooner. PK for example got one like 4 years ago if I remember correctly.

Don't reply to them, no sense anyway. This is about a registry that lists all games/books/movies/web sites which are either only allowed to be viewed at 18 or totally forbidden. If you were in germany you would have to comply to this obviously, but since you are not, don't bother.

You'll be among a bunch of lovely friends there ;) I can not find a list of sites right now.

rogerbo 12-09-2003 03:46 AM

No need to panik, as long you'r NOT German or do Hostt the site in germany or do Operate the site out of Germany.

Yes the German want to have all Behind a AVS, that's why many German AWM's have left or relocated their biz out of Germany.

If the Germans wanted to clean the internet then they would have to switch it off in Germany which will never happen.
I'm wondering if Google and Yahoo did get that letter to LOL

censorship, kick it out of your country:
Americans: stop censoring tv
Germans: stop censoring games
English: stop censoring movies

we don't really have this over here, that's why my american friends are always surpriced that they show nudity on our normal tv channels :winkwink:

wake up people - any concerned parent just has to restrict adult content on IE and no more sleazydream. AVS doesn't do this - any kid can get a credit card but it's a lot harder to bypass and adult lock out procected by password if the parents hide the password and the re-boot disks. Demanding AVS might stop sleazydream - but not the 1,000,000,000,000 other porn sites out there and isn't a feasable option.

thoughts on if i should respond to them or just ignore it?

anyone else get a registered letter from these bozos?

No issue here, if your hosting is offshore you should be able to safely ignore these letters, but I'd recommend you looked at the finer points of your internet laws.

We have a similar system in place in Australia, and I've received cease and desists, but if my hosting is offshore, there's no issue.

I beleive there's a guy on GFY who I spoke to when I got mine who ran teen.com.au who was the first to havethe problem..

So i'm sure if you're offshore, no issues ;)

hornycash 12-09-2003 05:08 AM

our situation here in germany is really fucked up and totally
crazy. the new requirements for age verification are absolutely
from another world.

if a user want's to see porn, he has to do the following:

- first, print out a document from the avs company
- now he/she has to go to the next postoffice with a personal id card and the doc
- a person at the post office has to verifify that he/she is the person and that he/she is 18
- a few days later he/she recieves a package from the avs company
- in the package is a USB-Dongle with the ID in it.
- he has to put this USB stick into the computer to access porn

nah? isn't this fucked up?

Roger 12-09-2003 05:21 AM

I guess that shall explain why most of my members come from Germany and the US. Germans seem to be huge consumers of porn, is it any wonder with a government who seems to believe that porn is bad?

Troels 12-09-2003 07:45 AM

Hehe Germans are uptight..... we have unrestricted hardcore porn on Danish television. You don't even have to pay for it :)

No form of censorship has ever been successful.

Slinx 12-09-2003 01:49 PM

any news?

PoP 12-09-2003 02:30 PM

Ohh please fuck this fucking institution. They are so crazy no one canīt belive it.

send them a provocating letter , say you donīt give a fuck about our ( german) laws.

They canīt do nothing. . i would love to send such a mail myself but iīm german and they will fuck me really bad if i do so. :321GFY

Wow... that sucks, darling!

I strongly recommend following the advice above. Simply filter the German traffic to something that fits their laws. It's not such a bad idea to do this for all geo-targeted traffic... unless, of course, you really do feel like taking this up with 'em at The hague, which is always an option, but a rather costly one!

HarlotCash Dyker 12-09-2003 02:56 PM

So only the Americans can have their say in how the internet is run?

Germany has its laws - And if your site doesn't abide by them, then Germany can block your site -

Much like most of Asia already does -

PoP 12-09-2003 03:04 PM

bullshit. our gov could try to block the pages but the ispīs wonīt follow their advices.

it would be a bad fault to redirect the german traffic to a avs page. i am german and i am fucking sick of this damn avs.

make a new page with a huge sign " illegal in germany. too hardcore" and send the german traffic there. they will love it and this fucking gov canīt do a shit about it!

ElvisManson 12-09-2003 03:05 PM

Hey Sleazy....filter out your german traffic and just send it to a DIALER.

Why take the time to create a page for German surfers when monetizing them is difficult enough as it is.

Make some money from them.

Euro debit is not a particularly great way to make money from german traffic.

using a good dialer solution is.

and we got a new law. people can refuse to pay a phonebill which is too high because of dialers.... donīt know details but this will bring some problems...
