I need to find a company that will insure me for a reduced number of months (not the standard 12) starting December 11, and aren't ridiculously expensive.

The car is under my mother's name because it's MUCH cheaper.

I've tried Norwich Union, Liverpool Victoria, CIS, Budget.

Hit the back button, changed my sex to female, and the quote went down by £450.

i've always got the cheapest quotes from elephant.co.uk, not sure if they insure for less than 12 months though. you can get a quote online from them.

ldinternet what age are you ? Have you considered classical insurance ? Your car has to be over 10 years old and your limited in milage but if your only looking for insurance short term then it could at least be worth looking into.

I was always under the impression that it was very expensive if you only wanted insurance for a short amount of time.

I used Tesco last year to insure my Golf GTi 25th Anniversary which I sold a few months ago. That cost me £2700 when I was 21.

My Supra is £2350 this year and I'm 22 now.

Thanz for the info Gives me a rough idea of how much I would have to pay. I'm 19 so add another £1000, I live in belfast so multiply £2350 by 2 = 4700 + 1000 = No fuckin way I'm ever getting insurance for a Supra while I live here

A major contributing factor to higher premiums for men, is the fact that when women have an accident... it's something minor such as driving into another car at low speed or bumping their car while parking. She may not even claim.

When a guy has an accident, it's generally something more serious such as a motorway crash, and that costs the insurance companies more. You'll often find that if a family is travelling together, the guy will be driving - especially if it's at high speed or in poor weather conditions. Why doesn't the woman drive if she's safer? The majority of motorway drivers are men (70%) so OF COURSE a more serious motorway accident is more likely to involve a man.

Example - a family car has been bumped FIFTEEN times in town by a woman who never travels above 30MPH. 3 claims were made, cost the insurance company £300. Then the guy has ONE accident on the motorway, and it costs the insurance company £6000.

When was the last time you saw a guy reverse into a fire hydrant while parking? Never.

God only knows what would happen if the majority of motorway drivers were women!

Tesco were strangely enough cheaper for me than CIS by quite a bit which surprised me. Oddly enough it was cheaper to have myself and the wife as a learner driver than just to insure myself as the only driver Could just be a one off though as usually CIS come up with stonking prices too.

I'm 20. I will be leaving the country next year so I figure there's no point in paying for a full 12 months.

"Classical insurance" sounds ok, but I don't want to have to sell my car, buy an older one, then sell that when August comes, it's a lot of hassle and I lose money at each stage.

I'll call my rep tomorrow to discuss the details. Fucking insurance bastards. We're in the wrong business.

I'll be interested if you do get a good deal for much the same reason. Just changed car and insurance is due to expire so something for however long I'm still in the UK for would be great.

The CIS guy called again yesterday. What a fucking dumbass.

Anyway, he said that CIS provide 3 month policies. Or take out a full year, then contact them when you want to cancel, and they will refund the remaining money less a cancellation charge.
