3. No you do not get penalized for "losing late" that's why the BCS system is in place so exactly that does NOT happen.

IMO, a team in the country that doesn't win its own conference and gets pasted by 28 points in their last game doesn't deserve to play in the title game. Look what happened to Nebraska a couple of years back when they snuck in versus Miami.

All 3 teams have a great argument though IMO USC v. LSU wins out since they won their conferences. Yeah, OUs conference was tougher than the Pac 10 but they didn't win it! And it was their choice to add the title game by them expanding - don't blame USC for that.

I think this will hopefully hasten the institution of a playoff -
division 1 football is the ONLY sport in the NCAA that doesn't have a playoff! the BCS contract ends in 2 years so maybe in 2006 we'll be there.

Heck, I can live with USC being the AP champion and LSU/OU in the coaches poll. But won't it be strange with USC finishing #1 in coaches poll if they win the Rose Bowl but be skipped over for the title?

Any team who played both LSU and OU or LSU and USC has already said that LSU has a better defense than either team. And, unlike a bunch of California pretty boys, LSU doesn't rate their importance by how many people "look at them".

As for the Sugar Bowl, I will not say who will win and who will lose. I don't know that. But, LSU has an awesome fucking team, and I am perfectly happy about that.

As far as ME whining, I did not start a thread about how LSU is being mistreated, and abused....a USC pussy did!

All you USC fans who are crying about being ranked #1 in both polls and not going to the Sugar Bowl should keep in mind that college football has always been a sport that has penalized teams for WHEN they lose rather then how bad they lose and to whom. Since USC lost very early in the year and Oklahoma at the latest possible moment, USC gets the nod in the voters minds. Its like that every year. However, when you look at the three teams in contention right now (OU, USC, and LSU), OU and LSU have played tougher schedules and beat better opponents than USC, and as such deserve a spot in the title game. For better or worse, thats just the way it is. USC's number one ranking in the polls is nothing more than a product of good timing.

all the poll systems are flawed, just get used to it. look at the ap, it's just a popularity contest.

look at nebraska a few years back during the osborne era. came out and completely dominated the season, and came in and won the title during the championship bowl game by a fair margin against the number 2 team in the country.

nebraska came out at #3 after that game. the majority of the time, the ap ranks nebraska a couple points lower than everyone else.

i think ou deserves the spot. obviously being a ou rival, i'm not jumping up and down for joy. they played a damn good year, and kstate is a good team.

there is a huge uproar this year, just like every single other year, about who plays who in the finals. somebody always gets pissed.

it's kinda funny these days though. back a few years ago it seemed like it was pretty much always the same regular teams in the top spots. now you've got teams coming out from nowhere to win the championship. reminds me of the year az state won the title. and then they never won again.. lol.

maybe next year will be different for nebraska. solich is OUT (won't even be at the bowl game). new blood see what happens i guess.

The arguments for all three teams are passionate and have merit. Based on what transpired this weekend, I think USC and LSU deserves to be in the Sugar Bowl. You can't dismiss that the Sooners got their asses handed to them in the Big 12 Championship game. How can a team that lost its conference championship game go to the National Championship game? It kind of throws logic out the window.
But what this all cleary illustrates is this BS, ehh I mean BCS system doesn't work. Case in point is the fact that if Notre Dame had beaten Syracuse on Saturday, USC would have pushed past LSU in the BCS because the Trojans strength of schedule would have improved based on the Irish victory. WTF kind of system is this??!!
There is a simple solution. A 16 team playoff just like all the other divisons of college football and use the current BCS bowl system plus the Cotton, Gator, whatever bowls as the elimination bowls. One of the four BCS bowls gets the national championship game when it's down to two teams. There is plenty of time to do this. Basically the whole month of December is available. The college presidents make the ridiculous claim that this would interefere with exam time. Please. This isn't the Ivy League championship. Most of these so called student-athletes are just the latter. Bottom line is under the current system, the universities, conferences and the bowls have too much money on the line to quietly walk away from such a lucrative system.
College football is an awesome, exciting game being ruined by fat cat administrators and bowl executives who are not willing to work out a system for the betterment of all of Division I football.

One hold opponents to less points the others score more.......It is a wash across the board. Saying that I think any matchup of those 3 would be correct. The only bitch USC fans have is that being voted #1 in almost every poll(coaches poll should mean something) and the BCS fucked us. I could care less who wins. USC will whomp Michigan. Then we can have a nice controversy. Lets all just hope for a playoff system soon.
