Access problem with IE

Okay, this is a new one on me.

I have a member who can't access a site. When she clicks on the members link, instead of the password dialogue box, she just gets a 'page not found' white screen. I have checked her pw/id on a couple of machines, they work fine. So, I have to conclude, this is something on her end. She also told me she was trying to hit another site, where she is a member, and the same thing happened.

I'm not sure what OS she is using, her computer is a couple of years old, Gateway. I'm figuring probably ME, but maybe it is a very early XP-Home. She is using IE 6. She has no child protection software or anything like that.

I'm thinking there is some permission or something else that is preventing that dialogue box from coming up...anybody hear of anything like this before?

Why would that prevent the dialogue box from popping up. I could understand if it was not accepting the password, but the members link just goes directly to a "not found" page.

I dont know if this helps. I spoke to a tech at my ISP a while ago and he told me that there's a problem with IE6. After it's been on a machine for a while it starts to shut down certain ports making it impossible to access certain sites. Microsoft know about it but as usual have done shit about fixing it.

Are you using a subdomain for your members area? It may be a subdomain resolving problem.
If you're using /members ask her to enter /members/

Your ISP gave you a line of BS.

Is she getting a 401 or a 404?

If it's 401 & she's not getting prompted for the password, then it's definitely a cache issue. ..she prob thinks she emptied her cache, but she didnt wait long enough or something.
Have her empty them manually. or use disk cleanup to delete them.
