Would stupid spelling and grammar errors affect conversions?

A friend of mine hit me up the other day and wanted to show me his new paysite. Great, I love checking out new sites before anyone else sees them. The design was slick, samples were perfect, not too much shown but not so little that the surfer wouldn't be itching to see more. Then I saw something that absolutely makes my skin crawl...

"If you love shemales, your at the right place"

"More then 100 GB of videos."

I casually mentioned the errors and he thought I was being a grammar nazi. Fine, whatever. Do it your way. I was just trying to help. This morning he hits me up and wants me to take another look since his designer fixed the errors I pointed out. He did correct the errors but in doing so he caused more errors than existed before! Every instance of "your" had been changed to "you're" as well as a myriad of other new errors.

Once again I made a list of the errors and he said he didn't care anymore and would start sending traffic to the site as is. I don't know what is worse, the fact that the owner of the site couldn't spot those simple errors, or the fact that the "professional" designer made them to begin with.

Do surfers really care about this? I personally wouldn't join a site with errors like that on it, but that's just me. Do you think this will affect conversions significantly?

It looks stupid but keep in mind the average surfer has one hand on his keyboard and 1 in his pants...he hardly reads anything. He looks at pictures.

yeah, that's wrong to not get someone to proof read the text and make sure it's all correct. I've caught several errors in different friend's sites during construction, and I think it's important because for the educated people, they are going to pass it up, more than likely.

It certainly can't hurt to have tight spelling and grammar to go with the tight pussies on your site. To me a site laden with such moronic and basic mistakes is laughable at best...... but I still look a thuh pikchures.

A lot of people won't notice so they won't care, but the ones that do notice certainly will, I know I would, it just shows a lack of caring, attention, so it could reflect on the rest of the site.

Serious grammar mistakes and misspellings are no problem if you think it's okay to assume your visitors are morons...

It may or may or may not lose signups... hell, I don't really know, but if this gal comes across your site with signigicant misspellings and grammar mistakes, you'll lose credibility in my eyes...

I think surfers are suspicious of sites/galleries/etc with a ton of spelling errors. They are used to foreign sources sending them on endless popup loops or attempting to give them dialers or viruses. The more spelling errors they see, the more nervous it makes them, at least I think.

I've only seen wm's send in corrections regarding text.

Surfers send in messages like, "I want to fuck"

Now if a broken image somehow gets onto a tour you'll hear about it from WM's and surfers.

Too many webmasters just don't care and it ends up costing them more in lost sales than it does to have it fixed. Then they pull the "Oh I did that on purpose" line... on purpose is ONE mispelling, not 12 on the same page. lol

Amazing what I find on sites that do pay me to have those things gone over. Small mistakes is one thing, but blatent ones stick out like a sore thumb. I've even been asked to fix them for free!!!! I'm not a charity organization. lol

I knew a guy who ran a local publication... Kind of a "what's going on around town" freebie that you would pick up at a steakhouse. He printed up a brochure to give to potential advertisers. The cover had a waiter holding a tray of food. At the bottom, it simply said, "Your Invited". I personally hated the son of a bitch, so I didn't tell him. Last week his inversors pulled out and left him holding his dick. They were not happy with the small number of companies willing to advertise. Very funny story.

That's true most of the times, but sometimes the surfer DOES read. Might be only a small percentage of them, but you can lose these sales because of errors. It can pass an unreliable image of your site, like it's a Russian scam or something.

And that's just so easy to avoid! Why take the risk if all you need is a dictionary!

kisses,

Milena

It depends on the person visiting the site, for a dumb guy it doesn't matter, he won't make any difference anyway, for someone educated it may matter, thinking the page was created by a kid or by a foreigner, either way it's much better to have it written correctly.

Exactly.

Why even risk that it offends someone?

i agree..most people don't look at the text, however, those that do (the ones with $$$) would look at it, and become suspicious.

i'd never join a site that made me think when i did happen to read the text. then again, i don't have any $$$ either.

FWIW, typo's, grammer and spelling, SHOULD be an important part of your site as well as content...that's my opinion.

Usually if I see a site with grammatical errors I assume it's done by foreigners trying to make the site look like it's in the US. It makes the whole site look sketchy.
