UK webmasters, if you trust Halifax plc with your money, you are a FOOL.

And the same goes for Bank of Scotland. Let's see. They tried to steal several thousand pounds from me by "locking" my personal account so that I couldn't deposit, transfer, withdraw, write cheques, etc. What, am I just going to forget it and move on? Also, they tried to steal petty amounts of money from my account many times. Once, they transferred £50 from their branch in Manchester, to an account at the bank next door (I think it's Co-Op) for no reason whatsoever. I've never even been to the Manchester branch. My sister has also had money taken from her account a few times. They once charged her an overdraft fee, even though it was a banking error ON A BANK CHARGE that put her into overdraft in the first place. Insane charges, such as 8.50 per foreign cheque. Need I say more? Had I received decent service in exchange, I might not mind so much. But their staff are just plain clueless.

Bank of Scotland, affiliated with Halifax, are fucking monkeys. I filled out the forms for a new business account in addition to my existing account, sent them off with the required paperwork, and got the paperwork back a few weeks later, "we can't accept this" for no reason at all. I called them... they said it was a mistake, and to resend everything and it would all be taken care of. I did. 2 weeks later, everything returned to me. We played this game time and time over, until they finally returned my application because 3 months had passed and I "hadn't provided the necessary paperwork to proceed". Clowns.

Who should you trust?

Lloyds TSB treat their customers like GOLD.

If you're with Halifax or Bank of Scotland, seriously, you're getting fucked BIGTIME. Open your eyes! I wouldn't trust a small child's saving account with those clowns.

Go to Barclays. They charge £8 per BATCH of cheques, whether there's 2 or 200. £20 for a normal wire transfer. Never had a problem and Barclays Premier will fall over backwards to help, as long as you earn more than £70,000 a year. The bank manager comes out to me, sends me Christmas cards and I have had numerous perks to make sure I don't move banks.

TSB SUCK!!!

I've had SOOOO many problems with them... I only get treated like Gold now after complaining, and complaining and complaining. They know me as the customer that doesn't take no shit, so they bend over backwards for me.. but only now, after LOADS of probs.

HSBC were the best I ever had, but their charges for various things were too high.

Barclays only charge 8 per batch of cheques? You are so wrong. Check the small print. You lose 9 pence in the pound on each of those cheques that goes in due to the shit exchange rate that they give you.

I am with Natwest Right now and they treat me like a kunt!
I pay £8 month for a business manager that has answered the phone once in 5 years!
They have only recently taken a little more notice of me since I started paying in £6k a month

I am so happy I have a US bank account. I will happily pay DHL once a month to send over my checks rather than deal with UK banks. I love this country but your banking sucks.

If you want the bext UK banking solution it is in my opinion to ask Barclays to 'introduce' you to Wells Fargo. You can then operate a US based account via Barclays exactly how you would in America. The great perk of this is that it is also classed as an off shore account.

I set one up and it took about a week to do.

I went to the TSB earlier. There was a huge queue even though all the desks were open... but a woman came around saying that if anyone was making a simple transaction such as a deposit or withdrawal, there's no need to wait in the huge line, she'd take care of them. She took my £ cheques and paying-in slip, and said they'd be deposited before closing time (4:30pm). I said I also had dollar cheques, but she said she couldn't take care of those. So she got another staff member and together we took care of the forms, it took only a few minutes, and I was out of there.

I went shopping, got home at 5, checked my balance to see that, as she promised, the pound cheques were deposited. And the cheques from other TSB customers had cleared instantly, of course.

THAT is great customer care.

Had that been Halifax, I'd have been queueing with those dollars until closing time.

After being a Halifax customer, and moving away from there -- even after a year -- the most basic customer care can seem amazing.

I love Canadian banks. TD Canada Trust monitors my bank account personally. If anything weird happens or if for example I am charged any fees they reverse them to keep me happy.

That's awesome service. Considering CIBC has the same fees and they let you pay for them.
I recommended my parents move their morgage over from CIBC and they gave them such a low rate it was INSANE.

I will always have an account with TD no matter where I am in the world.
