Logo Contest: $100 and credit in magazine.

So my boss is starting up a new publication and needs a cool logo for it. And I told 'em about the logo contests on here and he said to give it a shot.

The logo is going to be used for the front cover up at the top (Rolling Stone, WIRED, etc) and then used everywhere else from letterheads to on the web. The magazine is called Teeze and has the tag line ?The Models, Fashions & Promotions of Glamour".

You can submit as many entries as you want. There are no regulations for the design.. do whatever you want. Something that can be put on all sorts of different backgrounds would be a good idea though. The deadline is not set yet... but will probably be in about a week or however long it takes to get a cool design.

We might submit this contest to other message boards as well.. so I will link to them as we do.

The prize is a $100 and credit in the magazine. The money can be paid however you like (paypal, check, etc). And then we will credit the winner in the premiere issue of Teeze with whatever information you want us to put in there. A company name, website, email addy, whatever. Probably in part of an article. I will edit this once I get the specifics.

If you have any questions let me know. I know the money reward isnt all that great... but the credit in the magazine could definitely get some design companies/people some attention.

thx

Well, to have a logo contest it would be good to have specifications.. how big? what should it say on it? etc..

not very much money but the credit/advertisement is well worth it alone for the contest.

Good call. The magazine is called 'Teeze' and the tagline is "?The Models, Fashions & Promotions of Glamour".

Its magazine quality. So 300 DPI. And then a page is 8.5 x 11in (i think... will have to get back with exacts)... so the logo would be at the top with a width of around 8in.. and then the hight would be whatever.. just not the whole page of course.

I will try to get a sample page from the editor tomorrow.

These $100 logo contests have to stop. This is just my however, a $100 logo for a magazine is kind of an insult.

I realize, if you're looking for design its most advantageous to have a contest because you get to see many styles and pick the best of the bunch.

First let me say, I too participate in these types of contests.. even when the prizes arent that big because sometimes its just worth it to be in the mix however, I say this.... If you win this contest, and an in print magazine uses it, its worth way more than $100 and some credit. You should get the credit anyways... that should be a given.

Contests are cool but make it worth the designers while. Not to mention, most magazines have VERY simple logos.. usually just normal fonts in white/black. Good luck with the contest =)

Okay, the boss just responded.. he said 300 dpi.. the pages are 8.5x11in... so at the top of the page would be the logo. ITs a fashion mag.. so theres gonna be hot chicks on the cover. He said to think MAXIM :D The logo will also go on tshirts and stuff. He is estimating up to 10,000 subscribers in the fashion industry. Just so you guys dont think this is some half ass thing.. he already has many publications in the adult nightclub industry and puts on a huge expo ever year in Vegas.. all which can be checked out at exoticdancer.com. He also said.. that he would use the winner for freelance work in the future for this magazine and even the other ones.

edit:// also.. the winner has to sign a contract for giving us the logo and give all the psds and that crap.. all which will be handled later.

i have to disagree on part. if i out-right purchase a logo/design/stock art, i am in no way obligated to give anyone credit for it. if someone does something on discount or for free for me or with an agreement that they will get full credit, then i am obligated to credit them for their design.

i will agree on the contest statement...

the problem with using content that we bought is that we are not licensed to use them on graphics that we will in turn sell/give to someone else for use for their "business". I don't think that would be allowed. Do you have any pics we can use?

I understand what you're saying, maybe I wasn't too clear on what I meant. I'm simply talking about association. If I do the graphics for something, I expect someone to say I did them purchased outright or not. Obviously, I wouldnt expect them to go out of their way to tell people.

BTW, holden you should request PDF's or .AI/.EPS files of the logo if its for print.

I agree that $100 isnt the biggest payout. But I think the winner will be very happy with the credit and the relationship that will come out of it. Like you said.. it's not that very hard of a design.. its really quite simple.. its just that we want to see all kinds of different approaches.. which is what contests are great for.

Umm. Well we dont really want any real pics of girls with the logo. Just basically the text and maybe if it looks good a little design.. maybe of like a females body.. but no real pictures.

Buty if you need photos for the background just to test what it would look like.. you can use some from girlsofed.com

Now, after bashing the contest, in hypocritcal form I submit an entry =D why you ask? cause i didnt do $100 worth of work. And ... I don't think people were getting the jist of what the logo should look like.

hi, here's my entry. logo colors depends on the background image.. can be light or dark. any color will do like some magazines. i made it simple to give it a more clean and glamour look.
