CA.MSN.com is 8.. and it's a big portal!

Fuck now they are 8's again. I think it is obvious that not everyones toolbar records the same PR for the same site. If I visit a few pages of a site, it's PR increases. Anyone else notice this?

Why is your 404 page a PR8?

Answer: Google toolbar GUESSES at what PR ranks should be based off of higher directories or base directory. The PR that google toolbar shows is NOT the PR that google actually uses in its indexing. It is a rough estimate, being as it uses whole numbers. If you want the real PR, use directories that you know google is indexing. Also, base domains have the real PR (to within 1 whole number).

I hear google will fake page rank, also, within the algo...pr is actually calculated on a scale of 1 - 200 I believe. Additionally, putting too much weight on PR will have you running in circles smacking yer peter with a wooden spoon (You'll go Bonkers), backlinks baby, backlinks...they are the heart of pr anyway.

It seems like it is meaning less and less these days. Some of my sites that have the best / highest PR values are falling way back in the SERPS. I think Google has grown tired of allof these PR jockies and is devaluing it to some degree.

I read on WMW that there is about to be a big change in the google algo.

Chocker - By all means do that. PR8 is insane for an adult site. As a matter of fact, I've never even seen it before. It's probably just a hiccup in the system right now, but if I were you I would optimize the hell out of that page. You are in a great position to get some high quality SE traffic.

That all depends on what terms you would like to target. There are some very basic things that can be done with http://www.chokinchicken.com/ from an SE perspective. Longs lists like that can be tough to work on page factors, but it can be done.

That PR8 404 page is probably a fluke. What other 8's do you have. http://www.chokinchicken.com/ shows a pr5 from my end.

thanks but for $150 a hour, I can get a hell of a lot more traffic other ways than all the SE's combinded could ever give me. No offense intended. The problem here is that sometimes my sites are 8s, sometimes 7's and sometimes 5. Many guys are telling me the same, so it is not my toolbar it is googles system. Something wierd is going on here.

You can't compare Volume to Quality. TGP quality sucks ass compared to SE traffic. With 30,000 SE hits a day I can convert 1:30. So I don't need volume. You can't compare apples to oranges.

My opening is a 5 and the *main.html* page(all of the traffic) is a 4 tonight. Who says optimization works?:1orglaugh

And just to shoot down your PR theories the *archives* page(which is rarely visited) is a *3*. The page is indexed highly in searches, but way old. How advanced is that? And they are planning on IPOing this search engine? That's funny!

as far as your PR goes....
do this:

you need to edit the hosts file
go to: C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\

there you add this line:
216.239.37.100 toolbarqueries.google.com

then close all IE windows and there you go

the above code/ip is suspected to show your new PR at an accuracy of about 90%

high PR's do not equal top rankings..

especially if link tracking is involved, but people who post to TGP's really dont care anyway about their SE rank, just the fast instant traffic.

it will not improve your PR or rankings. To get good recips,
the site must link to your actual URL, not a redirect, and also the keywords should be in the anchor text.
