target="_new" ~ How does it affect sales?

lets say i have a page with some sponsor promotion, few banners maybe some text, etc.

Think it will scare off possible buyers if i open my sponsor in a new window when they click?

I would like to add an exit console on my page, but afraid it will kill any chances of making the sale on main sponsor.

also thought of adding something like "this link opens in a new window ..." or something.

has anyone tested this enough to have some feedback?

thanks.

It depends on if you are trying to make it look like your url/webpage has something directly to do with the sponsor then link straight to it. If you are clear that your webpage is sending them somewhere else then open in a new window as they will go to the sponsor & they will still be on your site to look at whatever other stuff is there (this would work as long as you have no pop-up hell).

90% of links on all my sites open in to a new window...

Thats the only way to do it, because they click when they want to see something, then when they are done they have your window open in fornt of them again and their like oh I remember coming to this site lets see what it has. Not using target="new" or "_blank" just sends your traffic away from your site and you might have just lost a personal sale.

If the surfer is easily put in front of a pop-up hell, then why use the sponsor, that only pisses off your visitors, It also depends on where this traffic is coming from... try it & see if it makes any difference..
