Let him know how you feel and see how the rest of the family responds. Try not to cause a schism between bloo kin but you now must take the high ground and discipline the grandfather in FRONT of your kids with family present to show that th family unit as a whole, no matter how young or old must be hed accountab for their actions. This will show the kids that rank in the collective group is established by good deeds and respect and responsibility.

That way the kids will realize that parents and grandparents make boo boos too and say bad words. Once that's done have a " Boo Boo Bad Word Party " with a cake and grandpa can only have a piece if he takes responsibility and asks forgiveness. Then when that is done have the 3 year old cut the cake and give grandpa his piece.

But, from an outsider perspective, who is unemotionally involved (although disgusted), I'd try the more passive approach. He's already shown his stupidity; punching out a 60 year old dude would only show yours, and I suspect you're much smarter than that.

Now keep in mind, I'm not married nor do I have kids, but I have been in a lot of aggressive situations. And rarely does anything really good come out of an anger-invoked fight. There's an old karate maxim that states, "if you have to fight, you've already lost." So I think working things out peacefully is the better alternative and it shows you have much greater strength.

I count my lucky stars that my parents love my two boys as their grandchildren PERIOD and never have looked at the fact that they are mixed. Being born and raised in the deep South, I'm know it was a shock to oh so many years ago, but they never batted an eye. They have been proud grandparents for the 19 and 16 years my boys have been on this earth.

My boys are also lucky that we live where we do (in WA state). They've have run into very little prejudice to this point.
