I stood there petting my dog while they injected him. He was gone in less than 1 minute. Not fuckin cool at all. He was really old so it was time. Something I wasnt looking forward to.

Yeah. Too many times.

I'm very sorry you had to do this; but, perhaps you could think of it this way.

It's the last thing you do for a friend. It's a kindness and a final gift to give. Totally Unselfish.

Crap.... I hate hearing about his stuff. My Sully is 13 now, and he's starting to show the signs.... a little bit of cataracting in his eyes, a little more sluggish when he stands up or climbs the stairs..... eventually I will have to go through this with him. I've already been missing my first dog's passing for over 14 years now.

Sorry for your loss Pete. I firmly believe that, after a period of time, the best thing a former dog owner can do is get a new puppy. It seems to ease the pain a bit.

I feel for you. I'm sorry you had to go through this. I remember losing my first dog when I was 12 years old. I loved that dog more than anything and I'd had her since I was 3.

I'd literally be crushed if my current dog were to pass away anytime soon. She's a 12 year old Lhasa Apso, but she's still acting like a puppy.

Good luck with this and I hope you'll be alright. It's one of the hardest things to go through.

I took my 13 year old Doberman down to the vet to put him to sleep and he died in the back seat of my car. Worst day of my life. It was 2 months ago and this is the first I speak of it. I feel for you bro.

Sorry to hear... Pets become our friends and part of our family. It's heartbreaking that they have such short lives.

I agree, the best thing you can do is rescue a puppy or another dog from a shelter. It's a great deed to all animals, to give a loving home and good life to a dog or cat in a shelter that might be put down before their time, because there's not enough homes for them. You can make something good of your loss and return the care to another animal that will bring you happiness as well

My great grandmother had a Lhaso Apso that lived to be 20 years old. I had 2 of them when I was little too...

Dont worry. He died peacefully. The injection that they receive is a neon blue liquid that put them to "sleep" before stopping their heart. He did not suffer. My sister is a Veterinary assistant and does stuff like that every day. She says its almost exactly what they give to prisoners who get the injection-death penalty. She says thats how she wants to go.

I rehab animals that have been taken away from the owners because of mistreatment or neglect, and then I try find them new homes. Unfortunately many times the animals are too far gone and need to be put down. It never is easy.
It hurts.

I'm so sorry. The loss of a pet sometimes hurts worse than the loss of a family member. (Trust me on that one)

Thank you for not making him suffer. There are those pet owners who refuse to let go, making their animal suffer so that the owner can have a little more time with them.

Grieve and then, when you feel a bit lonesome and really need a dog to love, go to the animal shelter and pick out a dog who needs a loving home.

really sad to hear that.

When my last dog went, I called around and got a vet that would come to my house to do it. My dog was a 125 pound black lab named Sebastion, and he was the sweetest, gentlest soul, 14 years old....

We got him all tired out by playing with him all day, then we sat around (the cats came and sat near him too), with his head on my lap and we talked about stories of his life since he was a puppy.....then the vet quietly gave him the injection.... and the dog just quietly went away.

(whew)

really sad to hear that.

(whew)
Almost made myself cry

My Ned is 13years old and is my shadow.
When i load the net with porn he watches.
His favourite sites are shempland and thumbzilla.(they give a dog a bone).

Must be the hardest thing in the world to do.

That's awful. I had to do it for two pet rats (don't laugh, they were great pets). The problem with rats is the domestic ones always get cancer after 3 years, because that's what lab rats are genetically programmed to do.

We almost put down a cat at the vet, but decided to take her home for one more night. She died in her sleep that night.

And my mom's dog died in her sleep under the kitchen table of heart failure.
