My first pit-bull got very old and i just couldnt do it . He was blind deaf and couldnt use his back legs anymore . I felt bad every day but i couldnt bring myself to do it. One day out of the blue i finally talked myself into bringing him to the vets and i went outside and he had passed away on the front lawn. Its almost like he knew and let himself die because he knew it was breaking my heart to watch him suffer.

I had to recently have my old boy put down... saddest day of my life I would say. He was a golden lab. Got him when I was NINE. He'd been around for almost as long as I can remember... he was 17 when we had to do it. Still miss the boy... dogs are the best pets in the world.

Sorry to hear about your loss dude... it's never easy and it takes a while for things to get back to normal.

You did the right thing, Pete. Far better for him to fall asleep in your arms than to pass away in pain, afraid and alone during the night when he can't get up to come get you.

We just had to have our girl put down about two months ago. She was 12 and a Heinz 57 mix of lab/shepard/chow. The boys still ask where she is when we go over to my parents' house, and their little terrier is still having panic attacks when we leave, thinking that we're not going to ever come back either.

Sorry to hear about that. Must be a real bad feeling. But you must know that it's the correct thing to do. As someone said before, they wouldn't feel pain from the injection. The only thing that will hurt is the hurt from missing your pet.

Our cat, who was my pet since i was 7 years old, got killed in a brutal way, with the mindless bastard's from around here just a few months ago. If i had the choice of her dying like that, or her getting put down in the same way as your dog, i'd jump at the chance in a flash.

Must be shitty, ive got a dog myself and i know sooner or later it will happen. I never really cared to much about dogs/cats before i had a pet. ever since i got attached to my dog. i am really insane about animal cruelty. Any dog lover feels for you

never had to do that with any of my dogs yet, but know the feeling a bit.

Had it happening with my cat though, and one of my dogs ( rhodesian Ridgebacks ) died a few months ago of a heart attack right here in the kitchen.
Only 6 years old.
She been playing in the fields, came back and .... well nothing to do.

Just try to remember the happy times you had.
