Attention Skiers.. I need help deciding which Skis to Buy...

Ive narrowed it down to 3 skis..
Not sure which to get..

They are all 2003 models and a good price. My old ski's are about 12 years old, and the fucking tip broke.. I dont know anything about new skis, and im trying to decide here... Im advanced level (not expert level) and like a good all around ski. Not a mogle goer, but I do like my cuts. Terain is pretty groomed up here in oregon, with some occasional powder.

Anyhow here are the three.

-K2 Axis X

<img src="http://i16.ebayimg.com/01/i/00/de/43/13_1.JPG">
-K2 ESCAPE '5500'
(note this is the 5500 model. It is the advanced model of the Escape series)

- Salomon Scream Pilot

All three of these run with bindings at the store for about $1,000.00 each...

On ebay im getting some 2003's for about half that price.

Just trying to figure out which ones, or if there is one I am missing...

Besides as I keep getting fatter and fatter every year, snowboarding gets more and more difficult.

The getting up and down from the ground is just too much work.

Besides, im going to be teaching one school a week every saturday as an instructor again so i can get my free monthly pass..

I did it back in 2001 and loved it.

Teach two classes on Saturday get paid to ski, and get a free season pass.. Cant beat it.

I've been skiing since I was 5-6 years old. But after I tried snowboarding once up in Tahoe, I haven't looked at a pair of skis

Too bad we don't have any slopes close by. It's either 1 day of driving to get to the mountains up north or 20 hours of driving to get to Austria.
So I've been thinking about kite snowboarding..... perfect for flat land

'cos even if you're only an ordinary skier, you'll still look good ;)

There's parks and stuff for it. But I would rather go with just a frozen lake or a big ass field somewhere.

http://www.kitesnowboard.com/cgi-bin...ff;act=SF;f=15

There's some info about parks on that board.

Buy the Pilots. I have skied on pilots since they came out. Best ski you will ever use. Takes a bit of getting used to, since the binding is integrated into the ski so you experience no edge gap. But once your grasp the effortlessness of the ski you will never look back. You may need to take a refresher course no matter which pair your purchase. Shaped ski's require a different technique and balance to utilize properly. The weight shifting between ski's is more balanced. You don't weight your down hill ski as much.

I mean they are sooo new, have they really passed the test of time?

Are they really better? They sound kinda strange.

"Featuring the NEW Integrated Pilot Bindings. These innovative bindings help the skis flex evenly by preventing a flat spot under the boot. Salomon's idea is that if you mount the binding on the side of the ski, by connecting it to a 'pin' that passes right through the ski, and raise the boot platform, then the ski is allowed to flex naturally under the boot, and the binding release forces are not affected by this flex. Salomon was the first to create the first combined ski and binding, removing the dead spot under the boot and potentially increased safety by giving a constant release force."

wtf?

The intergrated binding basically allows the entire edge of the ski to flex and give you a true "carve" when you ski.

Making the shift from straight skis to shaped ski's is relatively simple and your skiing ability will go up at least 30%... You will be able to ski longer because you don't have to push your skis around as much as simple weight shift and your ski's do the work for you. Powder will become twice as easy. And yes you will have a much more controlled fluid skiing experience.

So do you think the Scream and the Axis X are similar in nature?
They are the same kind of style of ski arent they?

Damn, you should sell these things.

Not enought snow yet..

Hopefully this week will dump a shitload..

I called the snow phone and the gal said she only got 2 inches the night before..

I assume she meant snowfall and not the size of the Asian guy she had the night before.

I have the X-Screams with the integrated bindings- got them new last season.

They'll slice through anything, great in powder.

Looking forward to a Mt Baker run this season.

If you can put your hands on a pair of Armada ARV (they are sold out completely though) I heard by many that they rock since they were built by real professionnal skier (they used to ride for Salomon) that got tired of getting shitty skis. Supposedly that those skis are the thoughest on the market!
But I snowboard so what do I know! LOL

Otherwise go with Salomon, but it's pretty gay when you try to match up your suit with the rest! Go with a different colour I beg you!

wow, i havent shopped for skis in a couple years now.

i should get a new pair this year. i would get salomons, if i were you boneprone. they are great skis. a friend of mine is sponsored by them and iv seen him put those skis through hell.

its really amazing how much snowboard technology is being put into skies.... like the increasingly more present rounded tips and tails, and the tail raise and transition that are now on more and more skis.

The Piliot Scream or the X-Scream?
This decision is like the difference between the standard package and the luxury package with cars. You like cloth or leather? =P Pilots are like the cadillac of the Xscream series. If your are a extreme aggressive skier who spends most of his time in the air I would go with the normal Xscream because it's lighter. I have both Xscreams and Pilots now I prefer Pilots.

Another Note: Something I remembered that sums up shaped ski's the best. My ski instructor always said: With shaped ski's don't over ski them, Let the ski do the work. And that's the truth... Shaped ski's are so simple and forgiving compared to straight ski's.. You just go along for the ride.

I have the xcreams the older ones 1 season before they came out with the pilots-- I think they are great.
