Anyone here ever take the drug Levaquin?

Anyone here ever take the drug Levaquin?

Anyone here ever take the drug Levaquin and then post to gfy?

I'm on it right now and it seems to be having some weird effects and I was wondering what other people's experiences were.

Apparently it can be used for an assortment of infections. I've been feeling ill and out of sorts for a few and I kept thinking it was PMS only it seemed a bit much for that and at this point my period is actually late. Finally went to the doctor who seemed to think the high fever and huge swollen glands and sore throat and congestion might be issues. Levaquin has some kinda speedy side-effects, so now I feel really really tweaked out.

So I thought it was important to come to gfy for any medical information my Beverly Hills doctor might not be privy to. Fuck, I think I'm not being sarcastic, but then again I am a little delirious.

I think it beats the sore throat I had, but it is making me feel really weird. Doctor gets in and a bit over an hour though. Was wondering if anyone else felt this off after a while on it.

It is sort of one of those everything is more entertaining and everything is more irritating sort things. Roller coaster ride is probably apt.

Maybe you should ask the doctor who prescribed it to you.

If you havent been prescribed it, youre quite naive for taking 'respiratory' medicine without cause.

it never amazes me the people who try and self medicate.

ive had friends die from this same stupid behavior.

I don't think Levaquin is exactly the type of drug you buy out of your car window. It is expensive enough through proper channels. Of course my doctor prescribed it.

Some of the possible known side effects on my little sheet from Rite Aid are things like irregular heartbeat.

My doctor does not get in until 8am and usually does callbacks after 6pm. While I have an awesome doctor who I love who has taken great care of me and who is a medical research guy at Cedar Sinai in addition to his private practice, he is a busy guy and no matter how good your doctor is, sometimes it helps to get anecdotal experience from other people.

Besides I was just envious of all your posts about what you were on that I thought I should finally get to post when I was on something while posting

I am actually sober and completely clean right now Amelia, but thanks.

Congrats if that is what you want to be doing

I'm definitely not experimenting with Levaquin, but I suppose my doctor is a research scientist too, so maybe I am secretly a guinea pig. Hmmm

Very expenisve drug to take retail if you have no insurance. Great all around drug for respiratory and pneumonia's, top dog. But when I was on it for 6 weeks, never caught a buzz.

It seems to be making the sickies go away and I'm flying a few days, so I need to be well. But the side effects are creeping me out.

Rite Aid is not one of the most expensive pharmacies in town and I was still like it is how much a pill? But I've never been a believer in health insurance. I might get it if I had kids, but I think health insurance is mostly this weird lie corporate America tells you in order to make you toe the line and do what you are supposed to do i.e. yes, you might be doing a job below your skill level with little room for advancement and annoying coworkers, but don't forget you have to have health insurance.

I'd rather just pay for what I need and not have to justify why I went to a more expensive specialist or something to some paper-pusher whose job it is to try not to take care of me.

pot rocks. but on your subject...it seems that you may be experiencing some side effects... maybe your body is having an adverse reaction. Definitely mention all the side effects you are experiencing when you call the doc...that way when he gets the message he will know if something seems to be wrong. Best of luck!

I'm too obstinate to have an addiction.

I used to love my iced lattes, but I would quit drinking them for a while just to not have anything I had to have every day and then I would start drinking them again. Sadly, I finally decided that I really do feel better not being a coffee drinker and I stopped a few months ago. Only habit I ever really had.

I wasn't really allowed to eat a lot of sugar as a kid, so I never developed much of a taste for it. It really irks me in the store when you read the ingredients and everything has sugar and modified food starch in it, although Los Angeles is way better on that than other places.

Never smoked.

Afraid I am all over the headache stuff -- although I like a natural herbal supplement better than ibuprofren, I am no way above taking Advil when it will help me be more comfortable and get things done.

Just left a message for the doctor. I wish I could get back to sleep. Hopefully there is nothing wrong. If I just feel weird and I'll get over being sick with just feeling weird for a few as the price to pay, I can live with that. Unless of course I say a bunch of horribly offensive things on the internet while feeling out of sorts.

Apparently halving the dose makes these antibiotics easier to take.

I maybe should have said medication and not drug.

This is not recreation.

Starting to feel better.

? If you experience any of the following serious side effects, stop taking levofloxacin and seek emergency medical attention or contact your doctor immediately:
· an allergic reaction (difficulty breathing; closing of the throat; swelling of the lips, tongue, or face; or hives);
· seizures;
· confusion or hallucinations;
· irregular heartbeats, chest pain, or fainting;
· liver damage (yellowing of the skin or eyes, nausea, abdominal pain or discomfort, unusual bleeding or bruising, severe fatigue); or
· muscle or joint pain.
? If you experience any of the following less serious side effects, continue taking levofloxacin and talk to your doctor:
· nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, or constipation;
· headache or lightheadedness;
· drowsiness;
· insomnia;
· ringing in the ears; or
· increased sensitivity of the skin to sunlight.

I suppose I could have used my doctor's emergency number, but I hate to be a nuisance. The effects sort of snuck up on me while I was taking it. And I only had the following of those:

· confusion or hallucinations;
· irregular heartbeats, chest pain, or fainting;
· headache or lightheadedness;
· drowsiness;
· insomnia;
· ringing in the ears;

And I wouldn't know about:
· increased sensitivity of the skin to sunlight.

I've been a RN for 14 years so I'm familiar with this antibiotic. Even though I work in the ER, I know it's very effective for treating UTI's, URI's, PID's, etc. and the symptoms you described aren't the norm for what we see with this antibiotic. Of course, sensitivity to sunlight, UV rays, etc. are commonplace with most antibiotics.

I would get an emergency call into your Dr. about your symptoms. What you are describing is concerning and I'm sure your physician would want to know about it. I'm sure he's busy, but he has an obligation and responsibility to each and every patient and if you are having some "off" type reaction to this antibiotic he would want to know and possibly perscribe something different.

Good Luck and keep us posted.

Yeah, I did. Thanks for letting me know this is really not the norm. I have uncommon reactions to a lot of medications. Usually try not to take much of anything for that reason. Reduced dosage to half and I'm a little more clear-headed now, although the last course of this I did was at half and didn't totally work. Still don't feel exactly myself, but at least I'm not going out of my head.

My doc perscribed me Levaquin and I took it for about 4 days but I stopped. I slept like 13 hours a night from it and when I went to the gym I got super dizzy and felt like passing out. I took myself off it and now all the symptoms have stopped (it's 4:20am and I'm wondering if my insomnia is still a side effect from Levaquin). I called my doc and told him about my sleepyness and feeling that my body was made out of lead. He told me its not from the Levaquin and I should try taking it again. I'll give it another shot on Monday. I've done some websearches on it and here's a link that freaked me out a bit. All these people bitchin' and moanin' about the drug and it's side effects:

OK I can go for that. There were a couple of people out there who posted on the board that I gave to let everyone know that they don't have any side effects; but you are right. I wouldn't post nor would I go to a message board for a drug I'm taking if I didn't have any side effects.

Quote:

Not sure if I understand. I'm taking Levaqin because I have an infection yet my side effects were feeling lethargic and lightheadedness.

Agreed.

Quote:

Agreed again. Before I started taking the Levaquin I checked out the side effects on the link I've posted. Scarred the living daylights out of me. As soon as I popped the first pill I've already experienced half of the symptons what the other people experienced also...at least in my head.

"drugs" is a very bland term that can mean almost anything , theres loads of drugs in milk

In my quote above i explained that even placebo's can cause you to be "fucked up" as most of it is in your head not a physical symptom.

Just look at the strange side effects people on placebo's get , in some cases they had higher side effects on the placebo
