hehehe.....I'd just like to know what a $1500 lawyer review of a paysite buys you these days.

IMO, this isn't really a risky business at all, and there aren't many legal issues with running paysites. The legal issues that do exist are fairly well known and easily avoided. IMO, spending $1500 from a budget of $5000 on a lawyer is too much.

that's what they charge. 4-5 hours to go through my site, write up my terms and conditions, warning page, 2257, make sure all my content is documented with model releases and id's on everything that's in the site. It's a good learning experience.

$1,500 is a small price to pay not to be paranoid.

as for laughing at me,
I have a 1:278 ratio so far this year on all the sites I've promoted so while I'm not ashamed to admit I'm naive on some things, I'm not totally clueless.

If I fuck it up i'll learn and take a different approach.

It's not like anyone is helping me or giving me any advice, I have to figure it out on my own.

But I guess when you have as much money as you do you can sit there and laugh and laugh at the newbies who do stupid thing like get legal advice on sites and buy test traffic to test things and make sure they work before investing more money.

:winkwink:

Lakeview, personally I think you're smart to be paranoid. There really is a lot to know, and you can make yourself a lot safer by doing taking some pretty simple precautions. I would suggest this to you: spend some money going to an Internext show, and attend the seminars, particularly those on legal issues or on running paysites. You'll hear lawyers, paysite owners, cc processors in the know tell you a lot of useful tips, with timely info like recent federal obscenity trials or recent Visa changes and such. I think you'll get more useful information for less money that way. But I think it's good to have an attorney anyway.

2 quick lessons:

1A. Only pay for a lawyer in advance of things when you are
doing something NEW, innovative and BIG.

Unless you are in the patent business or doing something high risk legal advice shouldnt be more than 5-10% of your budget.

And its always better to keep that money and only spend
it when you really need it.. and that wont happen.. trust me ;)

1B if you had a good lawyer that was worth the $1500 he would
have told you "DONT DO IT"

2. TRAFFIC

well..then ill stop laughing and wish you the best :thumbsup

This is how I'm breaking down my spending:

$2,500 in new content, mostly video
$1,500 to hire a lawyer to go through my site and make sure my site is ok to launch and my documents are in order.
$750 visa fee
$500 for traffic to test it on a soft launch before I really push it.

I designed it myself to save money.

Hope I'm making the right decision long term

$2500 in content?????
$1500 lawyer for 2257 and a warning page?

:helpme

stick to whatever else your doing, the above plan will fail

Buy stupid shit so you don't have 5k any longer.

This sounds dumb but I am serious as 5k in not every going to do much or be anything and if it is gone you can get back to working on real money. Figure out how you made the 5k and repeat repeat
repeat...

Seriously, right now $5k would be a helluva welcome income for me. No one seems to need text this time of year.

Yes, there's always potential in it...the potential to be stuck with $5k worth of wholesale watches that no one wants.....the potential that your auctions won't generate any sales or very low sales....the potential that you pull your hair out when someone doesn't pay for an auction they've won.....the potential to drive you nuts trying to ship these fucking things during the Christmas holiday season coming up....

I can tell you what NOT to do

do not buy stocks

strobi 11-02-2003 06:01 PM

Just leave it at the bank. you can't do anything financial wise with 5K$, and don't start buying stocks for a measle 5K$, you'll lose it all since you don't know what your doing. Just let it be... Why waste hours picking stocks and watching them for weeks to get the feeling for the stock and then, after days and days of reviewing buy for only 5K? Get your mind at ease just put it in the bank like the rest of us.:2 cents:

Does that work? I am getting rid of tons of older equipment, and it would be cool to sell it!
