Great food, great mix of people, great scenery, lotsa shit to do

I like to live on the outside of vancouver in a 70yr old character home yet I can get to downtown in 15 mins. It's quiet out here with a view of water and mountains. I have a big ass yard, apple tree and all that. Occassionally I have a problem with the raccoons, but hey...

Taxes here suck, and there are definitely cheaper places in the world to live. But everytime I come home from a trip, I wonder why I left home to begin with. Vancouver is my fave city.

Can not believe the city does not do more to ax the beggers and crack down on the open drug use. I have walked alone downtown at night (robson) area and worried about my safety because of the homeless crowd there.

Lets also not forget the Vancouver porn mafia, those guys are bad for the city;-)

10 minute DRIVE i assume? would that be about the same for both the west end and coal harbor?

And yes, it is relatively very close to the West End. I guess its a matter of taste. I think of it as a compromise. It doesn't have the same feel as the west end to me, but some would probably say it isn't gritty and scary compared to here, so...
can you give me a rough estimate of how far away the two areas (coal harbor and west end) are in terms of walking? i was under the impression that coal harbor was very close to Stanley Park. what about beach areas?

thanks again

Ok lemme show you where coal harbour and the west end are in relation to each other and Stanley Park - I live in coal harbour where the X is on the map (that arrow takes 7 mins to walk):

and this is what coal harbour looks like looking from a boat at shore (a few yrs old tho):

I have a condo in downtown. I didnt enjoy living there so I moved to Port Moody, which is an amazing little city within 15 mins of downtown (outside of rush hour) due to the barnet highway.

For $290k I got a HUGE yard with a white picket fence and separate garage, 70 yr old character home with nicely finished fir floors and 2700 sq ft of space spread across 3 floors.

I paid $240k for a little condo downtown. 12th floor with a decent view, but only 890 sq ft and 1 parking space. An extra space was costing $250 per month. Plus, maintainence fees are pissing me off - they have risen from $180 per month to $280 per month!

Anyways, I like port moody and enjoy being able to talk a walk down a quiet street to get my starbucks fix in the morning - as opposed to jostling thru crowds and avoiding bums downtown

But it's all in your preference - I wasn't in coal harbour either...

Actually that is a older picture of coal harbour. You can make out the highrises being built down there.
If I had the money that would be some prime location.Probably one of the best views in the city.
