It is entirely possible that Matrix was sold up the creek just like the rest of everyone. Hell, it wouldn't be the firsttime a customer database was stolen or sold from within, either.

Thats understandable, but you gotta understand that NicheMVS (MVS = Membership Validation Service) was only an idea and never went past registering the domains and buying the content for the design from Matrix, the name nor the emails were ever registered anywhere else, so the letter today came from the Matrix DB somehow, if it wasn't from Matrix themselves then I apologise, but I have never been to a convention and have no plans on going to one (except for maybe the one in Chicago when GFY announces it).

So I do believe that I have solid grounds here for suspecting Matrix wouldn't you think?

I'd be interested to see what address you have on file for one company as it came to my house and only two companies have that address. One I have confronted and both companies haven't settled...

adrenalinedef 10-24-2003 10:32 PM

I know for a fact that it was Matrix that sold the list.

I have 2 addresses, one is for all my affiliate checks to come to, and one is for a paysite I am creating. No one has the address to the paysite I am creating but GoDaddy (where my domains are registered) and Matrix Content, where I *WAS* planning on buying my content. Well of course it was sent to the 2nd address, so the only person it could have been is Matrix Content, unless Godaddy did it, which I highly doubt that.

I got a letter today as well Im a web designer who works with different companies.. I look for alot of content for clients, and purchase some for design work and such..

Address matched the same used at matrix.. The account at ce cash has a totally different company name.. the info at flynt digital is different.. So to me that only leaves one assumption of who the info came from... Matrix.. I hope this gets straightened out.. Would hate to see this get uglier..

I am a little disturbed by this post. You talked with your lawyers and post ?cry? to help to solve your problem and turn your computer off until Monday. You have great content and I refer my clients to your company without a commission.

Under your company?s terms, the client buys the content to his/her domains and I do the design. Seems very simple, unless client gets a ?letter? and then screams at me. I have not received the letter as of yet, however I did get an angry call tonight.

I may or may not have lost the client but if you are serious about your security leaks, you may want to shut down your online store while you are trying to figure out the flaws.

Damn, if could have said the store is closed because of some hackers, it would have made my Friday night much nicer.

From what I have read in this thread and other, sounds like Matrix is pretty fucking guilty.

If I was those that felt wronged, I would read my Terms of Service and/or privacy policy agreement with them and if either states that your info will be kept completely confidential and not sold or given to any other compnay, you have grounds for a breach of contract lawsuit, especially if you can prove that they are the only ones that have the address you recieved your packets from.

Not a lawyer, but I am sure you would have a nice case and probably make enough to cover your patent fees for years to come

I received my Acacia letter today thanks to Matrix Content rolling over like a 2 dollar whore. Because of the way that the letter was addressed, I know that the information came from Matrix Content. I attempted to log into my Matrix account today, and I could not get into it. I requested that the password to the account be emailed to me, twice, and Matrix Content has yet to forward the info. Seems awfully convenient to me.

I seriously doubt that Matrix Content's database was compromised in some manner. Even though Acacia is arguably the largest collective asshole in corporate America for this hour, I doubt that they are ignorant enough to compromise what they are trying to accomplish by engaging in some sort of industrial espionage and illegally obtain another company's database.

As for the Matrix owner shutting down his computer for the weekend ... I say get your ass back in the office and forward my password to me.

Call Norman Monday like he posted... I'm pretty sure there forgotten password stuff is automated, if your not getting your info it must be the wrong email or somthing...

My 2cents..

HS-Trixxxia 10-24-2003 11:19 PM

Norman, if in fact your systems were hacked before and you were aware of it, I personally would have liked to be advised. If your present or ex-employees have leaked out the lists to make a buck and ACACIA has paid someone for the lists, I'd really like to know who it was. I don't appreciate my information being given out to any Tom Dick or Harry - bought, sold out, or for whatever reason........if they don't have a warrant or subpoena or whatever it is they need in the States authorized by a judge, my info should be safely on your computers with honest people protecting my privacy.

This is not a cheap shot to yourself or your company - I was always more than satisfied with your company's product & service - but my info is mine and whoever compromised it has to be dealt with.

I haven't received a letter but I'm thinking it's going to take a few days to get here. If I have my info straight, yours would be the only company I have an account with.

So what you are saying is - "you did give them the information" ...
but you "did NOT give them permission to use it" ...

So I predict Acacia will say a "clerical error" or "over zealous" employee made a mistake ...

But to be clear on this ...
you gave them the information ...
but did NOT give them the right to use it?

I WILL NOT REPORT TO ACACIA!

Next Acacia will be saying - "they're not really your customers because they owe us 2%" ...

Hey folks,

I didn't want to be dragged into this, but thought I'd add my info. to the pot... I just received the letter from ACACIA at my personal, home address, and Matrix was one of maybe 2 or 3 companies that had that info. combined with my real name and business name... the only difference was that the letter used "Apt." instead of "Ste." for the apartment number, not sure if that means anything or not... and my site uses no video -- just a bit of flash -- so I'm obviously on their broad "catch all" list of targets. I just got the following email for video from Matrix -- thought the timing was interesting -- not sure if it means shit, but wanted to pass it along...

P.S. Given the past AND recent connections people have made between Matrix and ACACIA, it's tougher for me to believe it was hacked -- if so it was hacked more than once, even just a few weeks ago... seems more like ongoing list distribution to SOME third party, whoever that might be... :2 cents:

I was thinking the exact same thing.

I also got the letter and it was addressed to two different company names on the same envelope. Both were mine but Matrix was the only one that had both. The old name hasnt been used in a long time.

basschick 10-25-2003 12:48 PM

as i look over all my sponsors and content provider accounts, matrix is one of the few that have my full real name as patti cake, which is the name that acacia sent the letter to me as.

i don't claim that matrix did it, but they are one of very few that could have using that name. i haven't found another yet, but there may be one or two more.

Sexzity 10-25-2003 04:19 PM

I will bumb this for you.

But if you did't sign that licens, you would not have to fight for your companies reputation.

Can you tell me, did you make any other deals with Acacia than pay 2% ?
What i want to hear you to say is: There is nothing in that paper from Acacia, there is forcing you to give you buyers info to Acacia and that you did't get a better deal, than every other webmaster.

I'll guess I'll say it again in case it was missed.

The people above have Matrix's client list... in the very least their email databases. :2 cents:

Mr.Fiction 10-25-2003 05:36 PM

Has it been established if Acacia also got Matrix's list of URL's that the content was licensed on?

If you got a letter, did they list the URL's that Matrix had licensed for the content?

With it, Acacia would be able to connect websites and companies together who they might not be able to otherwise.

I don't see why Matrix or anyone else would sell or give away a list of the specific URL's where people licensed content on. Even if they sold email lists of webmasters, or addresses, did the list of license URL's get out too?

Here's my situation:

I've got the package from Acacia for the old even non-registered company name & for old address which I probably left at Matrix content. What's interesting: the site I've got the package for had only 2 videos at all. It was babe site & there were just 2 bonus videos, 1 from FocusContent & the second one from Matrix.

So I really think, Norman, that you database has been stolen somehow. I know that you're honest & respectable person & would never sell or share this base with anyone. I hope this will help.

Thank you.

No, I did not mean my system got hacked.

Sorry, my post might have been a little confusing.

What I meant was, Norman never followed up about the emails like he said he would.

I assumed he would follow up with info that they were hacked, or an ex-employee leaked the db's or whatever. That quote was an example of what I expected he might have followed up with.

But since he didn't follow up, I just added the emails (that were registered and tagged with matrix) to the spam blacklist.

Bladewire 10-26-2003 03:49 AM

Quick reminder - though the focus of this thread is Matrix.. Matrix is not the only company who's settled with Acacia, or who's considering settling with them. Nor should just those who have settled be the focus. Those who have remained silent through this are saying a lot by not addressing these issues. :2 cents:
