Embarrassed GM to Rename Car With Risque Overtones
LOL!!! That's why we're sooooooo special here in Quebec. The power to make a behemoth like GM change name.
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmp..._show_buick_dc MAKUHARI, Japan (Reuters) - General Motors Corp will rename its Buick LaCrosse in Canada because the name for the car is slang for masturbation in Quebec, embarrassed officials with the U.S. automaker said on Thursday. GM officials, who declined to be named, said it had been unaware that LaCrosse was a term for self-gratification among teenagers in French-speaking Quebec. GM officials in Canada are working on a new name for the car, a sedan that will go on sale next year to replace the Buick Regal. The mix-up is reminiscent of another GM vehicle with an unfortunate name. In the 1970s, GM exported its Chevrolet Nova to Mexico and other Spanish-speaking countries, only to be told that Nova translated into "doesn't go". Despite the name, and contrary to popular folklore, the car sold well. |

If you were to drive down to any retirement community you would find more Buicks than any place on earth. As long as you have old folks....you will have Buick One of the most sought after muscle cars from the 80's is the 1988 Buick Grand national GNX This car was not the standard GN it had the side vents on the fenders and the black custom BBS style wheels the same power plant was used in the Indy pace car for the trans am in 1989 and made the car one of the most distinguished and collector cars in the history of the Firebird T/A history |

One of the great marking fiascos in GM history was marketing the Chevy Nova in Latin America.
