WMV Error Message

I'm hoping someone here may have a suggestion for a problem I've been having with our movies. I've had a couple of members tell me that they get the following error message when they attempt to view our movies:
"the source filter for this file could not be loaded".

I've actually gotten the message on an intermittent basis myself (very rarely though).

I encode all our movies as wmv's at 346Kbps using Pinnacle Studio 8. Here's a sample clip: SAMPLE CLIP

For playback, I'm on a DSL connection, running XP home, and WMP 9. Some of my members that have gotten this message also say that they get it using WMP 9.

Does anyone have any idea what causes this or how to resolve it? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Jake

I get this error when I try to play wmv files:

"Windows Media Player cannot play this file. Connect to the Internet or insert the removable media on which the file is located, and then try to play the file again."

Anyone?

Doesn't sound like a DirectX problem, but perhaps, there is shit that goes on in XP that I just don't understand.

I'd say try uninstalling all the codecs on the machine in question, and then reinstall just the ones that you know you'll need and see if the problem persists. Of course, even if it doesn't, that doesn't mean that it was the codec that was the problem, because who really knows what happens to other parts of XP when you uninstall/install software.

I swear, the more user friendly they make these damn things the more I struggle with them.
