I recently setup a wireless 802.11 wireless network, it worked quite well, didn't test it at the distances you are talking about, but the connectivity was quite good, ofcourse it was with totally different equipment though

dunno how that works, but we used to use some bad ass cisco point to point directional. the smaller units we connected buildings together at about half-mile distances, with fairly small antennas.

we had a larger unit that connected us downtown that was more dish-like, probably ran around 5 miles or so.

it was bad ass, if can use a directional setup, i'd go that route.

Yeah this is a bit different I have a buddy who live 2 miles away he has dsl I can not get DSL cable or T-1 and have decided against sattalite. So If I dont wanna buy an office downtown I have to set up a long range wireless connection I own a few buildings in the town below me and used a telescope to look for them from my perch on the mountain. But all I can see is pretty much trees. Some dumbass planted eucalyptus all over town when the railroads were built in the 1800 and they are very tall and block a lot of crap. I think my buddys house is kinda line of site or at least on of my buildings, even if it is partially blocked by trees So I am hoping that with these Antennae I will be able to set up a connection 1-2 miles even though these say 10 plus mile range which means when I get is set up I could prolly service the whole town hahah. Just wondered if anyone had experience going through trees and crap with these kinda antenna

I got the new T-Mobile next generation wireless phone from AT & T. The phone itself (Siemens S-56) plugs into your laptop via the serial port and acts as a wireless modem global. However, on the road it's $0.03 a KB download so you better have scripts setup on your server to automate tasks, etc. I'm going to Brazil then Thailand starting on the 20th of this month to test it out. I let you know how it works. As for the connnection here in Florida, no problems. It even has a USB charger. Pretty cool stuff from AT & T...Only $59.99 a month unlimited, etc, etc.....

Ive used smaller stuff on my wi-fi i setup, and reallt didnt have to much of a problem with the trees and buildings it actually made the connection kinda better witht he signals bouncing around n all.

you can check out ricocet.com i had one of those and loved it, i also had direcway, and uhh, they limit you to 400MB's every 8 hours i believe on downloads

and shit worse comes to worse, hook it up in one of those tree's and point it in your direction my

I used to setup 802.11 wireless LANs
Distance was about 6 miles an open landscape and 2-3 miles in the city
Everything works just fine
Bandwidth is about 5.5 - 11 Mbit/sec
Quality depends on hardware to use, cable length, antenna and lots of other things

HAY LADY! ...

I would go directional (a lot more secure and better signal for the power used). Check out:

http://www.compusa.com/products/prod...806&pfp=BROWSE

for a long distance directional antenna. Let us know how you get on.

... Yay
