Driving REAL fast - has this ever happened to you?

had to stay the night over in ft lauterdale with cybercat on the way back from the island gathering a couple of weeks ago. he let me drive his new mercedies 55sl. I got it up to 160mph on the highway with the top down. mark says it'll do 190mph with the top up. Fastest I've ever driven in a car. VERY SWEET.

160mph was enough - lol

one thing amazed me, often when I came up on a trucker real fast outa nowhere often the asshole would move into the center of the road forcing me to slow down. I was amazed that they'd actually do that - seemed like a real asshole thing to do but Mark told me they do it all the time there.

has this happened to anyone else or is it just a florida thing?

factory front and rear radar and lazer decetors in the car - as well as jammers. the company guarentees you 7 seconds warning on radar, and will pay your ticket if you get caught they are that sure about the radar dectors abilities.

Truckers are the best drivers out there, and result in the fewest accidents per vehicle.

lol.

my C4S will do around 175 mph. i would never bring it up to that speed though. i prefer twisty roads, carving up the turns, and clipping the apexes. redlining in the lower gears, rev matching on downshifts.

i ripped the bow valley parkway earlier tonight. had dinner at the chateau lake louise, then came back on the same beautiful, twisty mountain road.

My car's top speed is only 150 miles per hour or so but it's quite a rush hearing that engine roaring on the highway. Only tried it once to get the feel of it. Granted, my car's not a high end sports car either.

NO IDEA - I'm not much into sports cars - I drive a big 4x4. I'm a comfort hound, not a speed demon.

that was a friend's car.

and since we're talking about fast driving, the fastest i've ever driven a car on the road is around 140 MPH in my old S2000, several years ago.

i took a porsche driving course this summer, and got up to around 170 MPH in a 911 on the race track.

Well...
1) With a car doing 160mph, it's very hard to see that car coming up on you from behind. Even harder to gauge their actual speed. They might not have even see you.

2) What's florida's max driving speed? 55-65? Doing 3 times the speed limit, the person trying to slow you down isn't the asshole in question here. If you wanna kill yourself, get a gun. You don't have to involve the lives of others.

Just my two cents from the only 22 year old male who drives the speed limit.

I went 55 MPH on a skateboard when I was 17
101 MPH downhill skiing on 225 long boards when I was 21
I drove my Toyota MR2 twin turbo 145 MPH from LA to SF in 3.5 hrs @ 26
And now - I'm old enough to know - that, no matter who pulled in front of me, or split a lane with me - who's FAULT it would be if I crashed @ that speed - MINE!!!

Get real... it's only fun because it's dangerous. But, just imagine how scary it would be if your wife & kids lives were threatened on the way home from your family reunion by some selfish overgrown computer geek with an inferiority complex trying to impress his fellow GFY-ers. Go to a racetrack, that way you wont kill anyone that wasn't chasing god anyways.

I was cruising at 3AM once from LA to Palm Springs during a weeknight. If you know that highway you pretty much have it all to yourself at that hour.

I jacked my MBZ 560SL to 145MPH for about 10 minutes and it felt like it could go even faster, but I figured if I blow a tire or hit any highway debris at that speed I'm history.

Had the top down and the stereo cranked and it was a gorgeous So Cal night.

The thing is with Benz's you don't feel like you're really going so fast because they are so damn well engineered and smooth as silk at autobahn speeds.

I got so many tickets in that car too.

Naw, the safety asshole would be doing the speed limit and looking left. The school bus could also easily take a hit from a safetfy assholes car doing the speed limit.

But it doesn't matter how good your driving is. If you're doing 160 and some guy doesn't squint enough to see you coming up on him, he moves into your lane, and you hit him. It's not his fault.

You can be the best driver in the world and still cause an accident. If only because if you were doing the speed limit, you would have seen it coming.

You have to remember that there are other people out on the road, doing 160 on a public road is worse than drunk driving. The drunk driver probably doesn't know what he's doing when he gets in that car. You know full well what you were doing when you hit that bus full of children.

heh. no tickets in my Porsche. i'll rip through a nice twisty section of (very) dead mountain road marked at 30 or 40 KM/H at a 3 times the speed. but i never crank it on straight droning highways. boring imho.

people who speed excessively should be put in jail for as many years as they are miles over the limit.
