I would go with a dual processor.
1 gig of ram
and a wildcat card. Though the quadras ARE great cards.
You will need the dual processor for rendering.
You need the ram for displaying your project workspace.

Go on-line and see what the pros are using and copy their build.

if you're going for fast ram, check out some corsair xms ddr433 pc3500. them are good stuffs.

1 gig of ram no doubt. even with the stuff i do, i wouldn't be caught dead with less. if i were doing a lot of rendering, and i knew the programs i were using could make use of it, i'd probably go 1.5-2gb.

i'd also suggest a duallie setup. i've got a friend of mine that does a lot of 3d/cad rendering on his p2.4 lappytop w/ 512mb, and it generally takes a few hours to do a rendering.

also, have you checked the ati fire gl series vid cards? they make some sweet shit intended for this kinda stuff. but, i've always been a huge fan of ati.

the only thing that is just not sitting right on my mind,
if you are a 3d graphic designer and I presume you know what you are doing, how can you not know what kind of a system to get, it's your job to know. IF you are new to 3d graphics, then why the hell would you buy such a tricked out system and spend so much money on something so expensive and you don't even know if you'll be able to earn your money back,

my $0.02
