Norton Security Issues- High Cancels
The past few months I?ve notice an increase in cancels. More so then normal. I went into CCBILL?s admin to look up cancel reasons. The reason almost always was that users could not get access to certain files- mainly videos and audios that we stream from a helix area. I know that a lot of you pass all kinds of permissions to more then one site and this could also be an issue with product plug-ins.
Today I was helping a client go through their sites to detect navigation and access problems. On some plug-ins when Norton Security was ON it gave reasons why you could not access that area. Other products gave Internal Server Errors and some simply ACCESS DENIED. Here?s the problem? let?s say a user get he REASONS WHY page ? it?s a known fact that typical user is not going to go through that list and start changing his configuration. All he knows is that he can?t get in. Even worse is when he gets an Internal Server Error or Access Denied when he just spent good money, has a hard ready dick and wants to access some video. Of course I?ve also noticed a trend of them canceling later and access galleries. They couldn?t access ALL the content so they get a refund and cancel. New PC?s today have Norton or some other security program already installed and activated. The default settings will not allow most content to stream and it?s killing your flash, banners and anything else that?s activated by a script. The solutions to this are; 1) On your welcome page IN BOLD tell them that they MUST add the IP if they want to see everything on your site. 2) Collectively work on a solution that would allow the website to pass this information into whatever software they were using. So when the user comes in they are given doorways to come in, it detects and installs the IPs or settings it needs to make Norton OK. 3) Not worry about it and let them cancel if they can?t figure it out. If anyone has already addressed this problem we?d really like to know about it and find a solution OR if others are having this problem and want to merge with a few other companies to have a solution created, please let me know. I?ll keep checking back. Oh and one more thing? since all of these security programs, pop-up kills, etc. are around how are you doing your promotions now? Thanks, Dianna Vesta

Alot of times content providers want a proper referring url in order to give your members anything....
Norton security sometimes turns http_ref's off. Tug of war - members win. Content providers need to give up on insecure-as-hell http_referer based protection schemes anyway. |

I don't think it's a question of this so much as finding a solution to let the content pass & still keep all the permissions to serve content.
Making it user friendly so the surfer doesn't have to stop to configure his security program. ergo cancels
