We should publically trash them all here on GFY and pretend that it will make us look better and feel more powerful when in fact it just makes us look like desperate whining bitches scrabbling to keep our clients from heading to other stores with less theft at the checkout counter.

When Coca Cola first started out it used the legal system to strike down all the copycats. Wasn't until Coca Cola's new owner got lazy and let a company called Pepsi get started.

I'm sure I am forgetting a few products... but they should have learned their lesson by now... all that making new products with the same branding does is weaken the main brand, which is the regular Pepsi we all know and love.

I will say something about coke in USA compared to Australia it is a different recipe. We are drinking the classic coke recipe where in USA you have the stamp glue flavoured coke in Americans pick yourself up some classic coke if you want to see what it should taste like. (coke changed flavour like 10 yrs ago in usa)
Coke easily outsells pepsi in Australia and it is more expensive about 20%

How did Pepsi copy Coke? Vanilla Coke doesn't have anything remotely close to vanilla in it. It uses chemicals and artificial flavoring to simulate a vanilla-type flavor. That's probably why most like it.

Pepsi Vanilla on the other hand uses real vanilla extract. IMAGINE THAT! Real vanilla in vanilla cola. Check the ingredients on the can. It's funny how taste buds have been trained to prefer chemical tastes over the real thing.

Here is why I love GFY, pointless arguments.

Coca~cola started in 1886, started advertising in a month or so latter, was bought out in 1888, and in 1915 put it in that classic bottle we all know. Coke owns itself and several movie companies ect.

Pepsi started in 1898 as a peptic ulcer cure. Bankrupt a few times it showed no real progress until around 1960. Pepsi is owned by a fast food group (taco bell, KFC, pizza hut, frito lay).

1885 Dr Pepper was born in Waco Texas. They droped the period after Dr. in the 50's. They are the oldest still standing manufacturer of soft drink syrups/concentrates in the US. They did merge with 7-up in 1986. They still own themselves but are bottled under agreement by other companies dependant on regions.

Mountain Dew started in the 1940's in TN as a lemon lime drink to be used as a whiskey mixer. Pepsi bought them in 1964.

RC-cola, A & W rootbeer, squirt, canada dry, sunkist, hawaiin punch, country time, welchs, hires, slush pupie, and a few more all fall into the Dr Pepper/7-up merger.

All of these companies still got their base idea from pharmacies who were selling carbonated soda waters for quit some time. These companies started with syrups to sell to these pharmacies. Timeline wise though Dr Pepper is the oldest and would be the first.

Does it really matter though? So coke is the biggest, they just marketed better. I mean come on the invented what the world thinks Santa Claus looks like. It is just like that Mc Donalds stole the big mac from bobs big boy, KFC used to be the biggest fast food chain in history, and the list goes on.

In business it is not who has the idea, it will always be who makes the most out of that idea.
